Sleep? What is that? :)

Anything between 4 and 6 hours is plenty for me Deniz.

Thanks GR, but I am 100% sure my grandmother used the word fanos (whilst speaking Turkish Cypriote) to describe the glass funnel on the night lamp. Our village did not have electricity when we lived there. I use that word "fanos" loosely to mean source of light. It did sound greek to me. Does "Fanos" or "fanus" mean anything to you in the "cypriote" language. I did know "Faros" as one of the seven wonders of the world. Now I am wondering if the word "fanos" or "fanus" is derived from arabic. I will have to check.

I cheched it out. not everyword that ends in ....os is greek. Fanos was derived from the arabic meaning lantern. Knowledge and languages are so wonderful. When I started the secondary school in Lefkosia they decided to withdraw the teaching of Greek from the curriculum. What short-sightedness.

Yes, the glass part is called "Fanó Thiellis" so your memory served you well :)
