Why should the church even be allowed to participate in state affairs, considering the fact that they do NOT pay taxes (or serve in the army)?
All members of the state pay taxes, serve in the army, etc, but they don't. Why should they, then, have a say in affairs that they are not involved?
the church is not one person inparticular. don't members of your church pay taxes, serve in the militarty, etc.? perhaps being actual clergy makes you exempt from some of these things, but shouldn't a clergy person be exempt from miliarty service. after all, the reason for the military is to protect thier own citizens, which included being able to kill the enemy if necessary. it just kind of makes sense, in that case, to exclude the people who are the church.
looking at it that way, i can almost understand why the church should participate somewhat in state affairs, to perhaps bring that "peace and love" attitude into the government.
that is an ideal situation, that in reality, can't work (like communisim.) organized religion is, after all, nothing more than a business, run by a bunch of people with egos and a thirst for money.
