Hello Boysie.Good luck with your plans for a move to Cyprus.First bit of advice to give you is to come with loads of money. To rent a modest property, you are looking at around cy£300 per month plus. There is no security of tenure and by my own experience I have found that once they have your money you can usually whistle for any maintainance etc.Health service is mainly private and medical insurance is quite expensive but the private sector hospitals etc are great.Cars are much more expensive to buy and tax and insure in Cyprus but fuel at present is cheaper.Food is on a par with UK but is much better quality and eating out is much cheaper and on the whole very good.If you value peace and quiet (especially at night when trying to sleep) forget it as dogs bark 24/7 as Cyriots seem deaf to the noise. As for working, jobs are extremely hard to find as *(unlike the UK) Cyopriots employ their own wherever possible as they speak the language and have the same approach to the job.Pity the UK does'nt follow suit.If you are lucky enough to get work be prepared for lousy wages.A friend of ours is a state registered sister in UK is working in a hospital in Paphos and is taking home the equivelent of cy£2.50 per hour!Cleaning for the ex pats pays better,so loads of very educated and qualified char ladies(and men) in Cyprus. If you can get round all the negatives and meet the genuine Cypriot people(those not selling you anything) then they are a delight and you can be very happy in Cyprus.
