Having a baby in Cyprus

Postby JLShill » Wed May 16, 2007 3:16 pm

I will be moving to Cyprus shortly and am expecting my first baby on 19th November. Any recommendations on the best private medical insurance etc. I'm a bit nervous about it all so any advice or tips on the healthcare/having a baby in Cyprus would be gratefully appreciated.

Not unless the father is Cypriot. And even so by the time he becomes 18 I don't think there will be national guard anymore, at least I hope not.

I am British and my Partner is Cypriot, we are due our first baby the beggining of December, Im having the baby in the UK but due to my partners work we will of course be moving back and forth to Cyprus, maybe in the future enrolling our child in a Greek school. If our baby is a boy will he have to do National Service :?:

He insist's that nobody knows what is going to happen in 20 years time regarding National Service and was laughing at me  (Considering he did everything imaginable and possible to get out the army when he had to do it!!!!! :D )

Hello JL Shill

Since i do not know where you are going to live in Cyprus,

The information I will provide is for Limassol only,

I have live here for 10 years and there is nothing I don't know about limssol.

My recommendation for private medical insurance is Universal Life
(MultiCare). I have a Comprehensive one myself, which only cost me £330.00 per year, of cause this does depend on your age.

If you do decide to go private, you will need doctor, the one I recommend is a Gynaecologist, his name is Dr Minos Solomon he is located at the Limassol Medical center,

I have know this man for 8 years and I can tell you this man is very well know and very good at his job and also he is expensive (sorry to say)

I myself have sent over 40 woman to him and they all came back and said to me he knows his job.

I can understand why you are nervous, because i would be, its the not knowing,

if you need any further help or advise let me know.

When we were stationed here with British army as long as your child was born on the Sovereign Bass Area there was no problem, if, on the other hand it was born on Cypriot sovereign territory then it could be liable. The wife of a guy in our regiment gave birth outside the famlies clinic Limassol but on the birth certificate it said 'Place of birth Akrotiri S.B.A'.
