It's the same kind of sickness that writes viruses or calls the fire brigade/ambulance for nothing.

Approximately 50,000 hoax fire calls are responded to every year, 135 per day, by the Fire and Rescue Service in England and Wales, whose role includes providing emergency response to fires, road traffic incidents and terrorism. The Economic Cost of Fire report estimates that each hoax call costs £1,700* . This equates to a disturbing £84 million per year. A significant cost for the Fire and Rescue Service to absorb. But this is not the only cost that is incurred:

* BT announced today that in 2005 it answered 28.48 million 999 calls, of which 48 per cent were identified as “inappropriate”**. Calls cost around 55 pence to process meaning more than £8 million is added to the hoax call bill.
* The cost to other emergency services, including police, ambulance and lifeboat services, is in the millions, increasing the total further.

The cost of the 100,000 hoax calls for ambulances made nationally every year is estimated at £20m.

Time-wasting calls this year include a woman who reported a cat had crept into her house and a call from a commuter who had missed his last train home.

Others were:

* A father-to-be asking for an ambulance for his wife who was in labour - because he was waiting for a pizza to be delivered

* A man asking if his £20 note had been handed in

* A pregnant woman asking if she had to wear a seatbelt

* A man who had lost his dog

* A man complaining that his Chinese takeaway was cold

* A woman trying to sell the operator a pair of shoes

* A man who asked for an ambulance because he was constipated

* A woman who dialled 999 because she had soap in her eye.

Greek.god.

What exactly did you receive from the Politis newspaper? Did it inform you of a website for hoaxes of children gone missing or did it inform you of the missing child? Call me stupid but Im confused :? Im finding it hard to understand why a newspaper would print a story of a missing child which is untrue, or print the details of a website which is totally sick.

I received an email from a contact at the newspaper asking for help. He knew I was American and had a lot of contacts withing the U.S. Community in Cyprus.

After I received the email, I googled the name and the website claiming it a hoax was present. My contact at the newspaper believed it was real.
