Anglo-Cypriot?

Postby T_C » Sat May 12, 2007 4:55 pm

Some dude just messaged me on some chat site and said he was an 'Anglo-Cypriot' and wanted to chat...

What is that???

Is he just hesitating to tell me he's GC??

Also what does "philos" mean?

Thanx :D

Philos means friend, but don't know what kind of Cypriot he is. To use the word 'philos' he must be Greek speaking. If he had said 'villos' then I would avoid him or pass him over to dangermouse.

I'd say it's an English person with strong affiliations to Cyprus.

Someone who was either born in England to Cypriot parents or some one such as my self who having lived here for over 40 years is either a British Cypriot or as I prefer to be an Anglo Cypriot. An Anglo Greek or Anglo Turk refers to those of either Greece or Turkey . So here you have it , Turkish Cypriot , Greek Cypriot , Anglo Cypriot etc etc.

It is not applicable to either Hellim or Halloumi in spite of the fact that both are now manufactured in England , you cant really refer to a Helim as Anglo Cypriot halloumi any more than you can refer to Cyprus potatoes , Bamia or Kolokasi as Anglo South Cyprus or Anglo North Cyprus products. !!!!!!!!!!!
