Koutcha Veresie

Postby kafenes » Sat May 12, 2007 11:22 am

I have been hearing this phrase for almost all my life but don't really know the exact meaning. I know what Koutcha is and I know what Veresie is, but is there a story behind this???

I dont think it has anything to do with the beans, it may be like ''koutsa strava'' means half done ..
so koutsa veresie may be half payed..
but I m not sure :(

lol girl...that was perfect!!! Almost close...

koutchia are the broad beans and veresie is when you get something from the shop (mpakali) usually without paying but the man in the shop had to put a note down that the customer had to pay later that amount. That used to happen years ago in the villages ... not any more...

Broad beans if I am not wrong used to be very cheap (all the kind of beans actually thats why they used to eat a lot of those) and everybody could buy them. So it was a kind of weird not to be able to buy them and get them "verese"....

But I am not sure what exactly that means...I will ask my mum later if you want!
Kafene how did you heard that? In which way?

Maybe not in the towns, but it still works in the villages (at least in ours and the next one). Voice of experience!!!

The word 'veresie' means on credit. The meaning of the whole phrase means something close to 'uncaring' 'uninterested' 'oblivious' but how can beans and credit mean this?
