Has anyone noticed that in some of the greek owned eating houses in the Famagusta area have a system of two menu's??

My wife looks greek and last week we were given a menu in greek as the waiter made a mistake.
The lamb dish was priced at cy3.80

When we asked for an english menu it was priced at cy5.95.

I have long suspected this proceedure now i am certain

Cant blame them i suppose we would do the same in their shoes

A friend taught me the Greek for ‘not the tourist menu, the local menu thanks’ but I’m afraid I’ve forgotten it…

It is called market segmentation and price discrimination. Just usual marketing practices, nothing wrong ;) But seriously, are you sure that you saw that lamb for 3.80? Sounds too cheap. Maybe I was given the tourist menu all this time :?

Talking of menu prices, there is a place on Larnaca seafront called "Meeting Place Pub". I had an English breakfast there for C£2, quite a decent fry up. My Cypriot friend told me that people queue up there in the summer cos its such good value but I don't know if we got a special price because he knows the owner. The only slight criticism I had was that the plate it was served on was stone cold so the food did not stay hot for long. If you are in Larnaca give it a try.

My home in Cyprus is only 10 mins from the sea front and I often call in at the meeting place pub for a "fry up" ( even though I don't often eat one in the UK) when I'm passing - good value for money and decent food too.

I might see you in there one day Jerry :)

I'm usually a porridge man Bill but I do sometimes enjoy fry up, next time I'm in Larnaca I'll look out for you. Incidentally a clever marketing ploy, how could you ever forget the name of the place for a rendezvous "The Meeting Place Pub"
