CHAVS IN CYPRUS

Postby Cyprus Vending » Mon May 07, 2007 7:48 pm

Well thats what we call them:-

English people that come here and set up a 'business' and then NOT pay Local Taxes, Social Insurance, and not register as a company.

The Pool Man, Electician, Plumber, Cleaners, Estate agents, Satellite installers, Rental agents, Curtain maker, etc etc - need I go on.

It took us nearly 1 year to form our company here in Cyprus and a lot of money and effort!

What peeeeeessss me off is the people that have NO respect to the country that they live in...

So its time to say NO --- Ask for a receipt and their VAT number..........

Also, WHY is the Cyprus goverment not checking up on these sort of people? --- If they did our Taxes 'should' be lower!!!

C.V. I think you should be aware that both in the UK and Cyprus the Cypriots' favourite "sport" is tax evasion. One of my uncles once said to me "why does he (another rellative) complain because the Turks stole his new house, he stole the money from the taxman in the first place!"

People in Cyprus dont ask for receipt just to save money. When I took my car for service the man there asked me if I wanted receipt or not when I went to pay him just to tell me how much I had to pay. And when I ask why he said that if I wanted receipt he was going to ask a bit more because he had to pay taxes.

old habits die hard .if you ran any retail business straight you would not make enough to survive .and your good staff would be on more money than you.the uk have grabed every last penny by stealth taxing your money .run your business straight cv and you wont be in it very long .it just dont stack up and if you think cypriots will see you earn one penny from this great place your dreaming .you seem to have led a sheltered life .like in the services were all your wages were paid every month etc .then when you come into real world every one aint playing the game .its a frustrating thing and your right .it is wrong .but so are all the companys .banks water elec phones gas community charges.sort them billionares out and let joe bloggs get on with earning his crust to top up the pensions that have already been stolen from them.they would love to be on beach all day and not have to do menial work .for fuck sake some of these people would have to back to that shithole uk if they didnt fiddle a bit.i have grown up with cypriots in uk for 40 years and everyone i knew paid half of what he should have and. some even less than that .and most are back in cyprus retired and looking after there familys ,not whinging. your a long time dead .you want to play it your way let the rest play it theres, this is the real world ,YOU GIVE AN EGG AND TAKE A CHICKEN ,MY BOY

I think you need to have revenues over amount to be required to register for VAT. Also you don't need to register a company you can just be a sole proprietor.

I think it's a shame also when there's no attempt at integration. When cars are kept UK reg'd, just change the headlights, we'll be fine. What about those people who don't even attempt to learn the language of their country of settlement? Or the culture/history? Feast days and Holy days. There are those who will always flout the law, because they don't think it applies to them. Those who don't pay their employees taxes also. It's down to ignorance. Stupid people who do no research at all about the country they're going to live in. Complaining when the sun's too hot, or it's too cold, or that there aren't enough English around to form clubs etc. There's always someone else to blame for these people isn't there? It's never their fault that they failed to make a go of it, that they didn't know that they had to pay taxes, social contributions and the like. Still, it's better for those left behind after they move on to other places. We've seen it all before. In Holland, Germany, France and now Cyprus.

Why did it take so long?
Yes, the Registrar of Companies is horribly slow and inefficient here but 1 year is too much.
And Sotos is right. If your annual turnover is less than around 9K (I do not remember the exact amount) you do not have to register with VAT office. Also the first 10K (per year) of income is tax exempt for physical persons. If one's income is 10K or less one even is not required to file a tax return declaration.
