Ofcourse we turn everything into a political discussion, this is the obsession that all members of this forum share ...
I believe that this forum has been doing important work, we have all learnt and we are all learning a lot, even if it may seem some times that we are saying the same things again and again ...
If you feel that this forum has convinced you that there won't be a lasting settlement, please at least share your reasoning with us before departing. What is it that has so disappointed you? I am asking, because your feelings of disappointment
are also a part of the Cyprus Problem ...Personally, I would be very sad to see you leave this forum, I feel that we have had very constructive conversations. And also I apologise if at times I have not been attentive enough or too slow in my responses.
(P.S. From what I understand, MicAtCyp has not abandoned the forum, he is just taking time off because he has too much work.)
I am just not in a jolly mood today. The answer to this topic was a result of that.
But it is true also that I am not very happy about the prospects of solution in Cyprus. The reason is simple. Even if with some miracle we achieve a solution tomorrow, that both sides can agree on, it will not be lasting if the attitudes in both societies do not change.
Accept it or not, anybody who goes into this forum, is much more educated than the average person in his/her society. If the educated ones, can not come together in civility, and can discuss things with empathy, then how that solution is will survive when it is implemented into the average society level. We just simply have not learnt how to talk and how to listen.
At the end it is humans that are going to implement the solution. Even the best solution that is achieved can fail if the implementers have ulterior motives or simply are not capable of acting in civility.
You are right about one thing though. We have learnt a lot from each other, but most of the times what we have learnt just gives me more despair that’s it. I am not very hopeful quite honestly.
What makes me more doomsday teller is the fact that everyday I spent in this forum makes me realize more that there are really substantial differences in opinions about what is a fair solution is. I hate to use clichés, but what happens if GCs and TCs so called red-lines do not intersect. An example from math is. What if we simply represent to separate sets in a venn diagram without an intersection and therefore without a common subset that we can build on. I used to think that we have a common subset where we can work on it and expand, but recently my belief in this has been diminishing.
I guess what I am saying is that I am also reducing the amount of time I devote to this forum. I will only respond to very few topics, that some sort of constructive discussion is going in.
Take care,
p.s. About MicAtCyp. I did not want to imply anything about him. I just got the impression that he was fed up with this cycle we are in, without getting anywhere, so he reduced the amount of participation to the forum. I may be wrong about him, as I am not a mind reader. I hope you are right about him.
As for you. The discussions we had in this forum, has probably been some of the most constructive discussion I had with a GC in a while. And everybody has other lives other than this forum as well, so you should not apologize for your reaction time. That is just life, I understand.
