Touristy things

Postby Hazza » Sun May 06, 2007 8:19 pm

I've been in Cyprus for 3 years now and have loved almost every minute of it. I have friends coming over next week for a weeks holiday and I want them to have the time of their lives.

Going to do the usual Troodos, Ancient ruins, waterparks, Lefkara trips. Now what I'd really like to show them is old Cyprus, old villages. Any ideas on which is the best one to take them to?

One of them is a keen diver, though he hasn't finished his training yet. What is the best diving centre to take him too? Preferably in Larnaca, though would take him to Limassol, Protaras or Ayia Napa.

More places and ideas, the better.

Cheers :)

Kakopetria is a gorgeous village with a river running through it and a section of it has been done up similar to Lefkara. Cape Greco, the SE tip of Cyprus and Konnos bay are gorgeous too.

I think the best thing is to get lost without a plan in Troodos mountain or somewhere in the forests of Paphos.

Best villages

Postby Cypriotatheart » Sun May 13, 2007 1:57 am

If you want to meet Cypriot people and enjoy excellent Cypriot food with atmosphere in a village with views of Troodos, then Lofou is the place to go. It has three tavernas listed in the good food list, but beware the way to see the village is to park the car and walk around and yes it is hilly. That is what mountain villages usually are. If you find the centre of the village down the road from the Church you will find Kamares Taverna. Up the top near the school is Lofou Taverna, and on the bottom road near the Post Office (house of postmaster) and Mukhta's house is Kazani Taverna.

I like taking guests up the Troodos road from Erimi to Omodos then visit the Donkey Sanctuary at Vouni before continuing past Ayios Mavri and taking the old road to Lofou, then down by Kouris. Gives a scenic day with many old villages all very different.
