Cyprus-Related Words/Phrases in Turkish

Postby Leon » Sat May 05, 2007 10:07 pm

There are certain phrases relating to Cyprus that I would be very grateful to be translated; here goes:

"Cyprus belongs to all its people - Greek and Turkish, Christian and Muslim"
"One state, two people: Cyprus; the island for all seasons"

That's all for now, but I would equally appreciate if the translator includes all the necessary accent in the translation (firstly because the first phrase is going into a letter to Turkish Cypriot lobbyists Embragoed!, and secondly because it's just complete common sense . I hate it when accents are missed off words in Greek, French, Turkish etc.); if you don't have Turkish fonts on your PC, then just underline the letters that require one so I know.

Thanks to our Turkish Cypriot compatriots in advance.

Leon.

Sorry mate but that slogan is stupid. What the state and the people have to do with the seasons? I think you watched too many CTO ads ;)

I love those ads!

No, the state and the people are to do with CYPRUS, which is to do with the seasons :D. It's not intended to be a slogan, but rather in a signature.

I could be wrong here, but wouldn't the first example be better as: "Kıbrıs halklarına - Rumlar'a ve Türkler'e, Hıristiyanlar'a ve Mslümanlar'a - aittir"? It's just the sentence order of Turkish that confuses me a little.

Thanks anyway (PS what's Turkish for 'all'? I wanted to say that Cyprus belongs to all its people etc.).

yes , it is correct too but u shld add comma after Kıbrıs and u dont need to use datıve case after each word..
so it will be
''Kıbrıs, halklarına -Rumlar ve Türklere, Hristiyan ve Müslümanlara aittir.''
