Dogs on death row

Postby junemichael » Thu May 03, 2007 10:27 am

Here are some of the dogs that have less than two weeks to live at the municipality shelter - can you give one a loving home for the rest of his/her life? Can you save a life? Please pass the photos around - the dogs are all so beautiful and just need to be loved. Maybe you know someone that has lost a dog and it could be sitting at this shelter waiting to be found. Even if you live in an apartment you can give a dog a good home as long as your landlord allows you to have one and you can walk it at least 3/4 times a day. THANK YOU

I want them all. I get so cross when I think of all these people having dogs and breeding and then just discarding them. It really makes me angry and very upset

Do you have any system over there where people can foster a dog? If people can't have a dog due to their circumstances they can foster one and send money for the running costs of the dog and visit them. This is generally done for the dogs that have been in the home for a long time and don't really stand much of a chance of getting a new home. Are the dogs able to stay long term or do they just get a couple of weeks to find a new home?

Just the cutest. Shall we just give up our day jobs and move over and take them all on?

Gorillagal, when I first started looking on this forum I saw some pictures of you with monkeys/gorillas ( please excuse my ignorance I don't know much about monkeys or apes and the difference between these sort of animals) did you look after them? It must be very rewarding and a wonderful experience to get so close to them.

from 1999-2002, i helped a woman look after baby gorillas for the Bronx Zoo. I logged in quiet a number of hours "babysitting" the little guys and gals. She raised them in her home for the Bronx, because at the time, this was believed to be the safest way to get the babies to adulthood. (gorillas are extremely endangered) they have since discovered that the gorillas do indeed have great mothering instincts, dispite that so many of the bronx zoo adults were wild caught as babies, and thus never raised in thier natural family atmospheres. they thought, because of that, they would not know how to parent well. luckily, they were wrong!

as for the difference between monkeys and great apes, in short, apes don't have tails. Humans are in the great ape group, along with chimps, bonobos, gorillas and orangutans. and BTW, we are more genetically similar to a chimp than a zebra is to a horse! furthermore, a human and a gorilla have the same amount of hair on thier bodies. thier hair is just coarser. (Karma may have some hairier cousins, so i heard!)
i have seen some incredible intelligence out of the gorillas. i have even heard them laugh during play or while being tickled. it was one of the greatest experiences in my life. i have always loved the great apes, and will certainly die with a smile on my face after helping to raise 6 babies!

Unfortunately the dogs at this shelter are run by the government and only get 2 weeks to find homes or be claimed by owners who may have lost their dogs, then they get destroyed. They are so loveable and don't deserve their fate poor things. Any help you can give would really help.

Raising the baby gorillas sounds amazing! Well done!
