This is our latest – we’ve rescued (in some cased had dumped on us) about twelve and re-homed them since we’ve been here.

It’s a pointless task to be honest.

While expats are required to chip and licence their dogs the Cypriots are clearly not – nor are their dogs neutered.

Until action is taken on a local level to prevent these unwanted dogs and prosecute those that dump them this will just go on and on.

New puppies are lovely but it is heartbreaking to let them go and not an inexpensive exercise either once they’ve had injections, and been brought up to good health.

Cyprus needs to be educated when it comes to the welfare of animals.

I don’t think it is education that is required but legislation.

they kind of go hand in hand. and then the legislation needs to be upheld. which means the educated need to open thier mouths and complain until the authorities do something.

My husband Michael is doing a sponsored walk from Limassol to Larnaca on 6th June 2007 at 19:00 hours to raise money for the shelter at Monte Caputo. Please turn up on the night at the Bank of Cyprus, Yermasoyia Roundabout, to offer your support and send him on a safe walk. The distance is 65kilometres and he is walking alone all to help the dogs at the shelter. Please please give your support.

I have 2 dogs myself, and its was only last Tuesday (23 May 07) I registered them,

I did it for peace of mind, all it cost me for both dogs was £5.00 each and that's all.

the information goes into a database and hope to god if they do go missing the police will do something about it, but in the back of mine mind I know they wont,

the reason that I registered them is that I want to take them on holiday one day, or i have to leave the Cyprus quickly,
(specially when they start drilling for oil,) god help us all,

now my next stage is to get Dog passports, and this will take some time and a few pounds.

Cyprus law requires all dog owners to register dogs, chip, injections, annual fee etc... but they dont let you walk them anywhere... :D
