Kikapu's time in Cyprus........

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Hi Birk , Im all set for Cyprus in a couple of weeks. Have allowed myself 6 whole days , will spend a couple of nights in a Paphos hotel and will make the journey to Stroumbi , my village , and from then on to Istinjo .I beleive you said the last time you were there was in 1967 , exactly forty years ago. I will be thinking of that little boy all those years ago growing up and doing all the things that I did just a few miles away.

As for backgammon and a bottle of red with all our friends that would be wonderful , Natty will be providing us with plenty of coffee. Talking about coffee , when I left Cyprus way back in 1961 , it was called Turkish coffee , since then it became either Cypriot or Greek coffee , I stuck to its original name having formed the habit at an early age of calling it Turkish coffee.

Can you email me your mobile number so that we can have a chat when I make it to Istinjo .

Good to know that you are never too far away, dear miltiades...
Enjoy you time in our beloved country. And thanks in advance for your most kind gesture of visiting my village...It is remarkable to think that our paths probably crossed in Cyprus in the 50s,while I was travelling to and from Istinco to wherever my father was teaching...I will ask Mother if she knows whether we passed through Stroumbi on the way...And I will be in touch with some phone numbers, but they won't be mobiles as truly I do not have one(like Kikapu!)...And that backgammon competition will be something, wherever we have it...I can make a mean Turkish/Cyprus/Greek coffee as well...but my Turkish tea is to die for...

Bon Voyage,my Paphian brother... 8)

There were also big bad wolves who didn't want that to happen. They had other plans for Cyprus, and they went about telling the TCs how bad the GCs were, and vice versa for the GCs.Most people got scared and started seeing the other side as the enemy. Those who persisted in wanting to live together as one nation ws first threatened, and if continued to dream their one people one country dream KILLED by TMT or EOKA...People were made to take sides and pull apart. This was not enough to ruin the country though, the had to start a civil war as well. And establish the division for good. Some random killings and planned massacres later the job was half done. Further down the line the big bad wolves knew they would get another oppostunity to finish the job they started. That came in 74 and the rest is history...From then on the two sides wrote scripts and kept making the same film about how bad the other side was.How they couldn't probably live together. And if any misguided fool(!) wanted to go against the script and sing his/her own song, the vultures decended on him/her and tried to tear him apart...Cyprus problem has been going for more than 50 years...this thread has a long way to go yet... :( :(

True, true...so actually I should be hoping that this thread doesn't get to 200, but actually finishes soon (70 maybe?) with both parties reaching some sort of agreement? Hmmm...can it happen? Lets see...

(Come one people don't let me down, the future of Cyprus depends on it.. )

Make mine Kupriakon kafe,Natty mou...Did you bring the backgammon set? Good...I'll just light the fire, open the bottle of red,and we are away..
But where is Lenacigim, miltiades, karma,Kikapu, and Pyros???

I am here birtanem...I am waiting for the details of that meeting ... I can not wait to share those moments with you and our lovely friends here.

Would you believe it, that I lost my internet service over the weekend, and I still do not have it yet.

I'll be back soon I hope, to answer some of the posts here, specially all that dribble from VP.
