My Cyprus

The independence of Cyprus was drawn up in 1959. We are supposed be an island that will have self determination.

Here are the problems I have with the so called independence of Cyprus


The problem

21. A Treaty guaranteeing the independence, territorial integrity and constitution of the new State of Cyprus shall be concluded between the Republic of Cyprus, Greece, the United Kingdom and Turkey. A Treaty of military alliance shall also be concluded between the Republic of Cyprus, Greece and Turkey. These two instruments shall have constitutional force. (This last paragraph shall be inserted in the Constitution as a basic article).

The question
Britain has bases in Cyprus turkey is across the water and Greece is up the road from Cyprus ……………..these three guarantors are members of NATO nato is en extension of American power in Europe…….. So we have America and Britain two nuclear powers and two countries that are on the u n permanent members
If we have all this power behind us why do they include in the Zurich agreement that Cyprus should have two armies….. Not only two armies but the armies should be generals by Greeks and Turks from the mainland……………..where is Cyprus independence and self determination. This is one peace of what I find wrong with the whole Zurich agreement that no one in this forum talks about

Problem

23. The Republic of Cyprus shall accord most-favoured-nation treatment to Great Britain, Greece and Turkey for all agreements whatever their nature. This provision shall not apply to the Treaties between the Republic of Cyprus and the United Kingdom concerning the bases and military facilities accorded to the United Kingdom.

The question
If Cyprus is an independent state then why are we obligated to be tied to Greece and turkey?

Problem

24. The Greek and Turkish Governments shall have the right to subsidise institutions for education, culture, athletics and charity belonging to their respective communities. Equally, where either community considers that it has not the necessary number of schoolmasters, professors or priests for the working of its institutions, the Greek and Turkish Governments may provide them to the extent strictly necessary to meet their needs.

The question
In another words they have the right to come and go as they please in Cyprus and spread propaganda hate and spy on each other


So tell me people of the forum is this independence is this self determining of an island that has never had independence………….. and when I open my mouth about Cyprus people jump on me as if i'm a traitor or I have taken sides or that I don’t have the right to ask question regarding my homeland my motherland Cyprus, my Cyprus

and this is just a flake of the questions i like to ask but many in here do not even adress the problem of cyprus seriously irs always 80% 20% we are greek cypriots with hellenic roots , we are turkish cypriots with turkish roots thats all i hear in here

i thought i was talking with cypriots in here since its cyprus forum but it seems i m speaking with greeks and turks and not cypriots

either that or not many of them can read and digest the question put forth to them ..............................or they are just happy being part of greece and turkey
