An Inter-communal Survey of Public Opinion by UNFICYP

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby shahmaran » Thu Apr 26, 2007 5:34 pm

I would, obviously depending on how its carried out, i am not moving anywhere that's for sure...

I don't understand how this partition by reducing us to %18 would be carried out without screwing us over to be honest...

Thank you Shah, at least you are capable of being reasonable, by accepting the 80/20 split.

It would not be 'screwing you over', but would actually bring some form of proportionality and fairness to Cyprus, albeit not the kind I would personally prefer but at least it is something. Plus you would get your recognition etc you all want so much, I wouldn't call that screwing you over.

Well that is very much open to debate...

The notion of "fairness" has long gone out of the window on this island, thats for sure!

I agree, and that is why I am trying to help bring it back.

What is open to debate? That an 80/20 split is more proportional and fair than 63/37 when the populations are 82/18 respectively? I can't see much room for debate there.

Basically i don't understand if this %18 is representing our current population, or the population before the GCs caused the majority to move out, because its not really fair to make us leave only to turn around and say "ah well look there is only this much of you left so that's how much land you will get", don't you think?

Considering you had a 30 year head start to re-build yourselves up, while we are just waiting around for a solution, if not leaving for good, as did the majority of the TCs...

How much was rightfully ours in the 60s? I thought it was something around %30...

18% represents your population in 1960. There are probably even less TCs today. Further, you only owned around 16% of the land.

See:

Many GCs have left Cyprus also by the way.

Ok well they need to count the Diaspora! I want to return soon and I don't like crowded spaces

They should also count the GC's Diaspora, and then talk about percentages...

Yes i have seen the figures on that GREEK site before, they also seem to count the minorities other than TCs along with themselves...

And yes GCs left too, however many people did also move there since, ie. the Chinese, BUT people have been deserting the TRNC since the 60s, but your site seems to claim that our population went up between 1960-1973, how could this be if everyone was trying to flee the island or even being "assisted" to leave, due to the horrible living conditions?

So excuse me if i am extremely skeptical about everything involving GCs on this island, because i cant help but view them as the relentless devotee's of a long term plan to cleanse this island from Turks...
