Travelling on Cyprus..

Postby sweetim » Sun Apr 22, 2007 3:23 pm

Hello to all of you...

I would like to ask you people how it is with travelling on Cyprus. I mean, I didn't rent any hotel or stuffs like that, I am going to visit my friend in Kyrenia (Girne), so on the north side of Cyprus. I bought flight ticket to Larnaca, so I will need to drive to Girne by taxi. Do I need some documents to get a visa? Are there any problems for tourists who didnt rent any apartment or booked hotel room? I hope it will not be a problem for me to go there but I am asking just in case..

Thank you for answers.

You won't get through without a visa.
Pick it up at the crossing point.

My son has just done more or less what you propose doing.

Take a bus from Larnaca to Nicosia which will take you to Eleftherias Square. This is about a 15 min walk from the Ledra Palace Crossing. Or you can take a shared taxi which will take you right to the Crossing. Naturally, you can hire your own taxi but it's not cheap.

You don't need to get permission in advance to cross into TRNC. You just pick up and fill in a piece of paper with your name, passport number, and nationality. That will be stamped by the nice TC girls at the crossing point (they are nearly all girls) and will allow you to stay in TRNC for up to 3 months.

At the border (it's a border for the TRNC) ask the way to the Girne Gate where there is a tourist information office. It's about another 15 minute walk. They will help you (if you need help) and show you where you can catch a bus or a shared taxi to Girne. If closed ask anyone, for a Girne bus or dolmus (say dollmoosh). They gather less than a 100 metres from the information office.

If money is not an object, forget the above. You can take a taxi all the way from Larnaca to Kyrenia (Girne) but not every taxi driver wants to do it. I don't think that there are any shared taxis going across, nor regular bus services.

There will be no problem finding a hotel. Few are ever fully booked and most can be googled and contacted.

Enjoy your holiday
