Republic of Cyprus passes resolution against British govt...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

And before someone again mentions the income generated by the families etc on the bases I would say the same income could be generated by other persons using this area

THE SERVICEMEN ON THE BASES PAY RENT FOR THEIR HOUSES AND ACCOMADATION... WHO TO?

No niki you are wrong
The servicemen who live OFF the base pay their rent to the |British Govt out of their wages
The Cypriot landlords are paid a yearly rent from the services which is not as much as the servicemen pay per week
Please dont try and contradict me .... I know what I paid in rent in Limasol and what my landlord recieved all those years ago
The persons on the base pay their rent directly out of their wages from their salary to the Brit Gov

Please note my comment was re servicemen who live ON the Bases

The British have actually supported the Cypriot community well. The highest number of overseas students come from Cyprus and (Bulgaria I think). The UK gives opportunities in many ways.

What about the huge amount of EU money that has been invested into Cyprus into roads, hospitals etc? Everywhere you go there is a sign stating "financed with EU money". This never happens in the UK despite the fact the UK pays hundreds of thousands into the EU. We pay so much tax to finance this it encourages 500 British people per day to leave the country to live in another country. We are all paying for EU subsidising.

Nothing to do with the bases I know but "the British" seem to be criticised so much and they are far fom perfect but there is also good that comes out of the dubious relationship between Cyprus and the UK.

No one is saying that what you say is not true niki

But the thread was about the bases in Cyprus

As for EU money being invested well this happens all over the EU

yeah sat on their asses and allowed turkey to ethnically cleanse 200,000 people. and on top of that they want to carve and secure, with more pluses, what they got via the annan plan for ever so the question never again surfaces.

What EU money invested in Cyprus roads??? Cyprus had exactly the same road network three years ago (prior to EU entry) as it has today and the new Nicosia hospital is a project that began like 10 years ago and finished last year!

OK Richard, you know far more than I do.

Are there not many forces personnel who live off base and who pay normal rent to Cypriot landlords?
