Another thing I've seen is that, when drivers stop to remonstrate or do something stupid, is that they don't like you taking out your mobile phone to take a photo of the situation with their numberplate visible. I saw a guy in a Merc the other day gingerly starting to back into a kerbside parking slot when an idjut in a Smart whizzed straight into the same slot, forwards. The Smart was plastered with ads for a shop a few metres along the street. The Merc driver took a photo showing his car, winker flashing, at an angle and the Smart, with the driver still in it. The not-so-Smart driver started shouting obscenities but Mr. Merc walked straight into the shop, holding his phone, presumably to tell the bossman how his employees behaved.

Many Cypriot drivers haven't yet grasped the concept of
REDUCING SPEED when the roads are wet (after it has been raining).

I have also seen a lot of careless overtaking.

Cyprus Driving

Postby steverundle » Sun Apr 22, 2007 9:38 am

After 14 years in the Middle East (Saudi, Bahrain & UAE) I was warned that the driving was considered very bad here - to be honest I'm finding it quite civilised - at least people have a smattering of of road sense and seem to at least try and understand the rules of the road.

Maybe it's me, maybe I haven't been here long enough

Cheers

Yeah, Dubai is nuts. Worked there for a few months back in 96, and the combination of nutty drivers and the fact that the roads were constantly moving (they would literally dig up one road and have another built somewhere else like within a few days) was a bit maddening. That and the fact that it was a law to have this annoying chime thingy that went off like an alarm if you went over something like 55mph. Cyprus isn't as bad (at least they allow you half a second before beeping when the lights change) I admit. Heh, I remember once waiting at a huge crossroads and a Porsche just zooms across and ploughs into this merc. Nice.

Cheers
