Black Cypriots

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

I just hope the imbalance between the rights of Cypriots and blacks doesn't reach the same level as the UK. I don't wish to go into experiences but I do find it a huge shame that the few blacks who abuse this system create problems for the other good people.

Police terrified of being branded racist with the huge lawsuits at a sniff of discrimination. Employers frightened of employing blacks in case they are sued if anything goes wrong. Political correctness gone mad and an unecessary division is created.

Lets all just all be seen as the same and if a Cypriot falls in love with a black - fantastic! Love is love.

i've been in this island for over two years... i dont see much of racist attitudes here... but yes, its always a different treatement that you get if you are an expat... sometimes positive, and sometimes (in my case rarely) negative... and this is not unique of cyprus...

There are indeed a few black (slave) origin families in Cyprus (pre 1974) They were treated the same as everybody else. One great family produced great educators and were highly respected. So NO, blacks were not treated in the same way as were done by the GC. There is no comparison. In my family I had relatives who were nursed by a "black" lady and we vied to kiss her hand and receive her blessings. May you rest in peace Kara (Emine)Nene. I believe she was over a hundred years old when she passed away.

I never said all, and I know that there are exceptions to every norm.

It didn't enter my mind, though, that Blacks from (former) British colonies were also sent to Cyprus, however it sounds quite credible to me.

It's just that I struggle to imagine a Black-Cypriot relationship in Cyprus. Do any of you know of any Blacks who have married Cypriots? Or any children of a Black-Cypriot parentage? How are these people perceived in Cyprus? I know of a (fairly) famous Black-Cypriot footballer - Colin Kazım-Richards - whose mother is Turkish Cypriot and father is Antiguan.

Most of Cyprus's Black population resides in the north, and I have heard from a Turkish Cypriot that three of his cousins are all married to Jamaican men. Can any such thing be heard from the Greek Cypriot side?

Leon.

Actually I have just returned from a night out at the pub with some friends. Among those there are two couples. In both cases the man is Cypriot and the woman black. One of the girls is from Britain and the other one fron Belize.

Isalice,

My grandmother is originally from Kiti.

Let me know if they still have the carnival in August and if those bumpercars/dodgems are still there lol
