I guess there is a reason why there are not too many men of colour in the south, could it be because (the gestapo) immigration ( thats a whole new thread) wont let them stay, also the attitude of the GC's towards them. calling them Mavro is the same as calling them the "N" word.

Hey TurboTurk, "mavro" means black in Greek - it does not have the same conotations as the 'N' word because the Greeks did not exploit African people for slaves, unlike your Turkish Ottoman forefathers. If you want to find a word close to the 'N' word - find out what the Ottoman Turkish slave owners used to call the Sudanese slaves they had under their command!

The example of the football game in front of kids is not the best education for them.

The majority of people who go to football matches all over the world are moronic idiots - find me one country in the world where not one single person shouts a racist phrase. Didnt Emre the Turkish footballer who used racist language towards black players in the English Premier League recently say that racist namecalling was normol and happend all the time in Turkish football???

What you did not mention in your anti-Greek propaganda post is the Greek Cypriot elderly gentlemen who told these fans to stop acting like kids when shouting "mavro".

To The Snake and crane or whatever,

Ask a TC if there is a word in the north that equals the "N" word? I dont think you will find one. There is the word Arap but it is far from derogatory, it covers araps and blacks (not a bad word)

The USA , where I reside, at their Football, baseball, basketball or any games yo will not hear any abuse whatsoever. people go to have fun not let out their frustrations, the rest of the world should look at them as examples.
Yes I am TC first, but also American.

There is NO direct translation of the 'N' word in Greek - unless you want to take it to the context of the latin word 'negro' which means black - although the 'N' word is an abbreviation of 'negro and was used in a demeaning and derogatory way.

The Greeks did not take part in the Atlantic Slave Trade because at that time they were under oppression from the Turks - who DID exploit Africans as slaves. As the Greeks did not take part in the Atlantic Slave Trade then there is NO Greek word that has the same connotations as the 'N' word because they did not have any African slaves who they shipped to America and call a derogatory name!

Maybe you should ask the aparent 'Sudanese Turks' in Cyprus (who ive never seen) if there was a derogatory word used for their ancestors when they were under slavery from the Ottoman Turks. You might get a different answer from them than the Turks on these websites who would have you believe are treated as 'nice' and 'fairly' as other minority groups in Turkey (which incase you are not upto speed - isnt that great).
