Travellers cheques

Postby stefanjez » Thu Apr 12, 2007 10:07 pm

I'm visiting Cyprus ( Paphos ) this year for the first time.Wondered if i should take stirling travellers cheques, or just use the ATMs.I know the Hotels usually have a currency exchange, are there plenty of other places to exchange money in and around Paphos? I've been told that I can buy Bank of Cyprus travellers cheques from Thomascooks and exchange them for face value in any Bank of Cyprus branch ie no commision. Any comments, advice etc would be welcome

Don't bother with travellers cheques, use ATMs or bring English pounds and exchange them here.
There are ATMs everywhere, but do not exchange money in hotels, the rates are poor. Many shops in the tourist area will exchange cash for a good rate without commission!

Use ATMs: changing notes gives you a much poorer exchange rate.

Agree - use ATM's. An easy way to monitor your spending is for every £100 Cyp you withdraw it is roughly £125 UK.

I did notice last year that the Bank of Cyprus wouldn't let me withdraw £200 Cyp in one go, but other machines did.

Anyway - I'll check again in 11 days...!!!!
