How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Request - Moderator (Piratis?)

Postby Murataga » Mon Apr 09, 2007 5:21 pm

Piratis- you are the moderator of this forum. I know we do not agree on many issues and engage in heated debates however I have always argued with you within the frame of respect, and never cussed at you or to your country or to your people for once. I am a TC who is a guest on your forum out of respect to your opposing views with the belief that we can talk them out. However, this recent post by the individual under the nickname Pyrpolizer is most definitely outside of any ethical and moral boundaries that shows intolerable hatred and racism to not an individual but to a whole race.

I am asking you as a guest of this forum and a friend of your`s to have this post removed. I also strongly protest this individual and ask that he apolagizes for his immature and hateful act. I don`t know any but if there were similar ones posted by Turks in the past I protest them even stronger and ask that their posts be removed aswell. Thank you.

I am a moderator in the Classifieds and Tourism sections only. You have to send your request to Lana. Here I am expressing my opinion like a regular member like you.

And my opinion is that respect is indeed what not only is required, but what we are obligated to give to everybody, even total strangers. However "respect" is not just about using polite words. Respect is most of all respectful actions and behavior.

What would you find most disrespectful: Somebody swearing at you, or somebody supporting and helping the violations of your basic human and legal rights?

By you supporting that I and 100s of thousands of other innocent people should have our human and legal rights violated and our land stolen because we belong to a specific race is a disrespect of the highest degree and way more racist than anything else in the forum.

So my request to you and to everybody else is to stop looking in the past for excuses and to start showing respect. Without respect there can not be trust, and without trust there can not be friendship. Without respect is certain that the circle of blood will continue and all Cypriots will be the losers.

I'm a firm believer of Democracy so to settle the dispute I've sent a copy of Pyro's work to Christie's Auction house for a professional evaluation so you might all want to wait for that to come through...

...although I wouldn't hold my breath!

It's pretty offensive, I agree.

But it's also satirical:

"Satire (from Latin satira, "medley, dish of colourful fruits") is a technique used in drama, fiction, journalism, and occasionally in poetry, the graphic arts, the performing arts and other media. Although satire is usually witty, and often very funny, the purpose of satire is not primarily humour but criticism of an event, an individual or a group in a clever manner.

Satire usually has a definite target, which may be a person or group of people, an idea or attitude, an institution or a social practice. It is found in many artistic forms of expression, including literature, plays, commentary, and media such as song lyrics. Often the target is examined by being held up for ridicule, typically in the hope of shaming it into reform. A very common, almost defining feature of satire is a strong vein of irony or sarcasm. Also, parody, burlesque, exaggeration, juxtaposition, comparison, analogy, and double entendre are devices frequently used in satirical speech and writing – but it is strictly a misuse of the word to describe as "satire" works without an ironic (or sarcastic) undercurrent of mock-approval, and an element at least of anger."

Satire may be offensive, but it's a valid form of expression and is protected in freedom of speech court law, at least in most western countries with a mature media market.

But yet perhaps you got insulted because the photo=1000 words of what people like AutoBoy and his Gang like Eric Dayi are?

You should actually feel ashamed of those people claim to belong to the same group as you, and for the fact that you did not open your mouth to say anything against them... woops sorry except that brilliant paragraph with "careful you are doing more bad than good to our cause blah blah blah spreading butter ... blah, blah..."

I have to agree with the request of muratanga to have the insulting image removed , bearing in mind that a very large number of our Cypriot compatriots will find this offensive. Many of my friends , even people like Kikapu or Bir will no doubt see this as provocatively insulting to T/Cs.
I also agree that when any member uses vulgarity beyond the bounds of what is acceptable and what is not as in the case of Ottoman then all reasonable civilized members will condemn , as Muratanga has done in his post , although he fails to mention the most disgusting of them all , those of Ottoman.
