reportfromcyprus, you seemed to forget for every wrong there is a right, and for every right there is a wrong. so how can anything be viewed as unbiased

thats an easy one, the ones that carry RoC passports, claim medical benefits and work in the RoC know exactly what their status are. the rest are settlers.

20th century as you put it doesn't start from 1963, but from 12:01AM, Jan 1st, 1900.

It will be better if you were to concetrate from the start of the struggle for liberation up to the 1974 events.

But so much has happened since 1974, no? All the UN talks, Cyprus' application to join the EU, Greece joining the EU, the whole regional picture changed.

So the 1950's should be the starting point.

1974 to the present is pretty well documented...concetrate on the grey areas and yes from 1950's onwards

Don't confuse the word unbiased with objective. Unbiased just means that you're not talking from purely one perspective but do show the different sides of the story.

Objective implies no feeling and no moral core, that's not what I'm getting at, and it's impossible anyway.

I agree there are a lot of wrongs and rights in the whole situation, but I'm not a judge, I'm a reporter, the best I can do is to try and present the whole story in as simple and relevant way that I can.

in the cyprus problem an objective feel will be a biased view. what you present will swing either way and that in it self will be presented as a biased view.

for example, you were told a story, you print it...the opposite camp says you got it wrong coz they lied to you...that will make your objectivity biased to the opposite camp.

Reporters report stories as they happen. History is for historians ;) If you are a journalist the you should write true unbiased reports so the historian of tomorrow can use you as a reliable source :)

If you have the time pay a visit to the Nicosia state library (next to the town hall) and say "Hi" to the existing 5,000 books on the subject so if you want yours to REALLY stand out get Pitsilos to handle the artistic side of things. He has more than proved his desktop publishing skills on this board wouldn't you say?

And what I said above reminded me to remind you that if something was written by somebody in some newspaper it doesn't mean is true. So how will you be sure that your sources will be unbiased? Because you can't write something unbiased with biased sources ;)

Agreed pitsilos, it's well documented, although not in one place, no? The information is in disparate threads from different sources. My instinct is to pull it together to create almost like a reference tool of the main driving forces; nationalism, the fight for resources, issues like this.
