In China and India more than 80% of the popuation live under 2$ per day let alone having access to the internet. Cyprus has a population of less than 1 million.

As far as the "high morals" of the EU society goes: do not forget for one day that their wealth and prosperity with some other Western countries is stained with the blood and sweat of millions they enslaved and raped for centuries under colonialism. Read the following and be more careful next time before preaching on European values:

You seem to forget that ARAB nations had a profitable slavery trade before white men ever set foot in Africa...both Greek and Roman empires and of course the Egytian Dynasty used slaves from Africa and europe. And did not Byzantium also have slaves?? has Turkey never "colonised" anywhere? Just look at the goings on in Darfur region of Sudan,,,nothing has changed.
So please dont try and steal the moral high ground, EVERY nation at some time has exploited others be it in Africa or elsewhere.
Perhaps you have never heard of red nose day? every two years a whole evenings broadcasting on BBC is given over to raising money for projects...60% going to Africa. this year alone the people of the U.K. raised 46 MILLION pounds alone.
There is an old saying "do not visit the sins of the fathers on the sons"....

European religious leaders apologize to Africa for colonialism

Religious representatives from nine European countries on Friday in Harare broke down as they asked for forgiveness from Africans and narrated how their ancestors had pillaged the continent, leading to its underdevelopment and untold suffering of its people.

Addressing Christians and delegates attending the European- African Reconciliation Process Prayer Network in Zimbabwe's capital city of Harare, Chris Seaton, leader of the nine representatives from Britain, France, Germany, America, Austria, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Belgium, said they were in Zimbabwe to apologize on behalf of their ancestors for the sins of the past committed against Africa during colonialism.

He said he had been touched when Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe said in 1980 the wrongs of the past must be forgiven and forgotten.

"But up to this time so far no one has come to acknowledge those wrongs from Europe. But today we have come," Seaton said.
Speaking at the same event, former Mozambican president Joachim Chissano blamed colonialism for being largely responsible for Africa's underdevelopment.

"Over many and many years, in international fora, such as the United Nations, the African Union, in churches and other platforms, colonialism has been denounced as a cruel system, largely responsible for an untold degree of suffering of the Africans and for their social and economic underdevelopment," Chissano said.

He said while African countries had recognized that bad governance and corruption were to some extent responsible for slowing growth in the continent, Europeans on the other hand refused to own up to the negative consequences of colonialism on Africa.
It was however heartening to note that the Christian communities in these countries were admitting the negative consequences of colonialism to Africa and were now determined to build bridges and maintain better relations between Africa and Europe, he said.

Chissano said the reconciliatory initiatives being pursued were also symbolic for Zimbabwe, currently suffering the effects of unjust international relations. He described Zimbabwe's suffering and isolation by the international community as a vivid reminder of colonialism.
.

The President of the Chiefs Council Fortune Charumbira said the initiative marked a new beginning in the history of Zimbabwe and Africa as a whole. Charumbira however challenged the European Christian representatives to urge their governments to lift the sanctions they have imposed on Zimbabwe due to its land reform program.

Representatives from at least 24 African nations were present at the conference, which is a follow up to the first one held in Berlin, Germany in November last year.

Who are these jokers who went to Zimbabwe and never had the sense pr perhaps the guts to to tell that tyrant , that ignorant loathsome dictator that HE and HE alone was responsible for the deprivation of the people of Zimbabwee. The man is typical of many African leaders , corrupted in every sense of the word , dictators who do not give a damn about their people. They sit back blaming the West while living in a dream world surrounded by private jets ans strings of Mercedes limousines. Africa has huge natural resources only thing though those resources are the exclusive property of their leaders . As far as slavery is concerned , the West acknowledges its past and no longer deals in slavery , while the third world is rampant with slavery in the 21st century. The African blacks sold their own people to the slave trade. The African black leaders today , with the exemption of the greatest African ever , Nelson Mandela , are corrupt , undisciplined . greedy and interested solely in how many young wives they posses. Africa's problems today are the creation of their leaders.
As far as colonialism being responsible for the ills of Africa , Cyprus was also one of the many nations under the British , why has Cyprus progressed economically .

On the contrary me dear Sotos , its a site worth tuning into believe me. Let me direct you to some interesting articles.
Go to the site and select traffic , you then get a menu listing all the countries. On the right hand site on the top select subjects , then choose the subject that you are interested in fir an in depth analysis , politics , fashion , business etc. This morning I picked WOMEN ! Then selected an article by Donna M Hughes on the plight of women in Sudan , and also in Iran .When you read the Iran article it may help you to understand my intense dislike of the current theocratic regime and the danger it poses to the entire world. Read it and decide for your self.
These are article that do not get on the front page of your daily newspaper but give a fascinating and a frightening insight into how some societies perceive their women folk.
