Is the North cheaper Zan for accommodation? I know people that are paying £300 sterling for 3 bed flat and another paying that for 2 bed flat. Some people pay a year or 6 months in advance.

Also not sure about salary, but I thought average here was about £300 - £400 sterling per month (I could be wrong), not sure about bar work. Going by tourists here is there any work for Summer for Brits on North side.

I think people take it forgranted (as we did) that Cyprus actually is a very expensive place to live. Retired people who sold their houses in UK benefit more than us who are younger with family.

However, I am not sure about other countries like Spain etc, but is it not much the same there working and living i.e. just expensive as Cyprus.

Many things are more expensive in Cyprus , but if you take for instance average council tax paid in London , mine for a 3 up and 2 down is almost £ 40 per week , as well as the exorbitant prices of meat charged by the big supermarkets , for instance Sainsburys charge £ 29.90 per kg of fillet steak and about 19.90 for sirloin .Chickens are relatively cheaper in the UK unless you opt for the so called "organic " which is a supermarket ploy to charge the earth . Overall Cyprus is slightly cheaper if you take into account council tax , water rates and of course my pet hate the extraction of money by the councils in parking fines which is in it self nothing short of highway robbery sanctioned by the law.

I have to admit I said it in a tongue in cheeck sort of way. THe thousands of students are keeping the price of accomodation high but as far as I know if yopu move away from such areas it does get cheaper. I am sure that VP or Murrataga can tell you more on this issue.

Hi Zan, I was just reflecting what others pay here, we own our apartment and either hope to sell or rent out when we move back to UK in June. :)

Not sure about utilities etc in the ROC, but electricity is expensive in TRNC and water too. Council tax ok, but can see that will rise too soon enough.

Food is not as cheap as you may think and restaurants prices appear to be getting higher. Meat and Dairy cheaper in ROC, but now they imposed a rule that we cannot bring over to the North.

Well anyway I think Grooster now gets the picture, but London is NOT cheaper than Cyprus going on private accommodation rentals and council tax.

Good Luck with whatever you decide Grooster and do some more research before you decide finally. Also be realistic with how much you need to bring with you.
