Sorry, I have to disagree.

I weighed all this up in some depth.

While there are bargains to be had in Cyprus, you have to be in the right place at the right time.

I purchased my 02 BMW 530d Tourer auto via good old Autotrader around 7 months ago for £9,995.00 GBP

I screwed £1,000 off of the asking price with pound notes on the table, literally. Works every time:-)

Shipping the car next month to Limassol in a container, and have been quoted £750.00 GBP all-in.

This eqates to £9,172.69Cyp by todays rates.

This will be the duty free import.

Can someone show me the same car in Cyprus (duty free) for under around £13K-£14KCyp.

Also bringing over a classic car with a big V8 engine. Classic cars over a certain age are elligable for nice discounts on duty if you go about it the right way.

Here we go again! I also looked into it and decided to ship my 2.5 pajero exceed auto (an ideal car for cyprus roads) at the price(with household goods and insurance) of almost £4000! I was assured that as cyprus is in europe now that no duty was payable and also i would also qualify duty free status as i am retired! Forget it! I had to find paperwork(50 plus pieces,uk bank statements, proof of house sale in uk.utility bills uk and cyprus etc etc etc) for nicosia customs to give me the permission to keep it duty free and registered on cyprus plates.(that again would cost in excess of CY£1750)after 5 months we had a letter from nicosia requesting more paperwork which we did'nt have.To cut a long story short we have shipped it back to the uk because we ca'nt be a---d any more! I have written to the european ombudsman about it as it has cost us a lot of money we could not afford to waste.

Don't worry I've been told all the stories, horror and otherwise.

Don't worry, this yid has a way of out-manouvering even the Cypriot customs. As you know, it's a case of who you know and one of the first things I did before deciding to move out there was to get to know some of the locals - right up to the top in both Limassol and Nicosia.

Funny how things can get done even in the walls of local government!

And very good luck from me too .

I gave it a lot of thought and even though I also have some very good connections in Cyprus -- the customs and registration officials are a law unto themselves.

I bought in Cyprus -- quick -- easy -- not as expensive as you might think and above all totally hassle free. :D :D :D

I won't have to make umpteen repeat visits to Nicosia with dozens of totally irrelevant bits of my past ( including a record of my change of underwear and the colour ) for the previous 6 months . :( :( :(

I'm firmly convinced that as soon as you think you have it all sorted they come up another request for some bit of paper or other -- I think they make it up as they go -- one thing I am sure of is that they will attempt to put every obstacle in your way --

Anyway it's your choice and I dare say it depends on how they feel on the day whether you succeed or not
