T-shirt worn by the Greek Cypriot soldiers sporting the slogan

"A GOOD TURK IS A DEAD TURK"

Greek Cypriot newspaper Haravgi reported on March 22, that these were words uttered by a high ranking Greek Cypriot army officer stationed in a military camp near the buffer zone outside Nicosia.

Haravgi also reported that it is common practice for the Greek Cypriot soldiers in all the military camps in south Cyprus to chant slogans such as "Turks, Turks you are all going to die", "You are going to die under the blue and white flag" and "We are going to drive all the Turks into the sea".

Haravgi gave the news under the banner headlines "Chauvinist Slogans in the National Guard" when a Greek Cypriot who resides in the close proximity of the camp phoned the newspaper to complain about the nature of the slogans emanating from the camp. He told the newspaper that he was disturbed by the slogans and that he had confronted the Greek Cypriot officer on duty to ask him why they were chanting such chauvinist slogans.

He claimed that the Greek Cypriot officer answered "What is disturbing you? We are going to kill all the Turks."

Questioned by Haravgi, A. Yorka, the spokesman for the Greek Cypriot Defence Ministry, said that the soldiers were allowed to chant some slogans but these were not chauvinist slogans and claimed that he would look into the allegations.

It is no secret that the Greek Cypriot soldiers are always hyped up with such racist and aggressive slogans and made to live in a dream that one day when the opportunity arises they will invade the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

A few years ago T-shirts sporting the slogan "A good Turk is a dead Turk" worn by the Greek Cypriot soldiers were also a source of argument in the Greek Cypriot media.

And? What did you expect? Cyprus is in war with Turkey because Turkey illegally occupies 1/3rd of our country. Or maybe you expected to teach our soldiers of how to protect the well being of our enemies?

Sorry my friend, but you should know that to your hateful actions of illegal occupation and ethnic cleansing, we are more than ready to pay you back in a similar way, and we have every right to defend our country from the invaders in all means possible.

I just hope that you will understand that your illegal, criminal and hateful actions can have only one kind of response from us.

You should therefore accept that Cyprus should be liberated and legality restored without the need of anybody getting killed.

Unfortunately the message you send to us so far is that there is no way that you will voluntarily give back what you stole from us and stop the illegalities and crimes against us, and this gives us only one alternative which we are obligated to train and prepare for so we can use it once the balance of power will allow it.

Piratis , let us hope that reason will prevail that the conflict that you are predicting does not materialize now or at any time .The message we ought to be sending is not one of polemics but one of understanding and reconciliation with our T/C compatriots. I do not confuse the messages sent by the fanatics such as VP and , Yes im afraid , Zan also , ( both of whom remained totaly in silence when the "Ottoman" zombie posted such acrimoniously indecent hateful posts directed against the G/Cs whom he calls Gavour ) as messages eminating from the majority of T/Cs but on the contrary messages by a small minority of fanatics. Let me remind VP , Shah and Zan of all the reprimanding battles that most of us had with G/Cs such as Malaka , Alexander , Scotzeza and that horrid girl whose name I forget , when these morons posted hateful comments on the T/Cs. Reasonable civilized humans must stand up against the fanatics who spread hatred and poison directed against their fellow Cypriots.

Maybe deep down you feel that TCs are the more innocent party in all of this mess and TCs are feelling it more difficult to forgive GCs thats why they feel your deserve all the shit you get, but if you look back I to have spoken out against posters who were attacking you, how soon you forget.

VP , as much as I find your views utterly worthless to the Cyprus prospects of reconciliation , I do think that you at least have a reasonable level of intelligence. Stating that the T/Cs are the more innocent party , might indeed be true since they have been forcibly deprived of a large area of their country by the fanatics and the Turkish army .Let us not forget that the overwhelming majority voted for the AP a sign that they do want to reunite with their Cypriot compatriots. You are of course aware that I opposed the plan , will not go into it again having in the past analysed my objections.

I'm pleased that you have in the past spoken out against the sick postings by some regardless whether such indecent low down postings were directed at the G/Cs or the T/Cs. Lets hope that you will rise to that challenge again , just as I would , and speak against the warmongers , sadistic and perverted psychopaths.

By the way as far as I know GR is a man because he referred to a wife in another threat …and I am not interested to meet you any more Shah…sorry

As for you GR…I am sorry that was my mistake (the typo thing with the GT) … and I would be more than glad to meet you…!!!

Now back to the topic…well I did ask my brother and they had those kind of t-shirt in the “kayimi” thing… a small shop in the army … that they used to sell them …but nobody force them to buy them or wear them…but the used to say those kind of signals and worst…!! But I agree with Piratis on that… we are still in a weird situation and the army train men to protect their country…at the moment they have to protect Cyprus from Turkey = Turks

the worse enemy fo cyprus is cyprus people. i see everyone is talking about cyprus soldiars and hate slogans they shout when they are being trained. well they have to shout something i guess......also did you know that a soldiar cannot say a word without the home secreterys approval and then you have the generals who train them another approval............perhaps you like to think about who is actualy inciting all this shouting that says kill the turks and the same on the other side where they are shouting kill the greeks..................is this the way to behave towards our own people in cyprus is this what cyprus stands for if this is what cyprus stands for then we are doomed

Lena...
By the way as far as I know GR is a man because he referred to a wife in another threat

That’s right Lena although I like to play the female sometimes purely out of selfish entertainment reasons! :) I did inform Pyro though not long after in a PM and we had a bit of a laugh over that. :)

…and I am not interested to meet you any more Shah…sorry

Shah was quick to jump to the opportunity to meet up with someone from the “other” side and that’s a sign of good intentions (Tavli excluded) and a warm heart.

As for you GR…I am sorry that was my mistake (the typo thing with the GT) … and I would be more than glad to meet you…!!!

Well hopefully we can arrange a group meeting somewhere in Cyprus, I’ll concentrate on that next week when I’m more free, as I’m currently seeing my other TC friend, and hope everyone will come along.

Well that should be “Kapsimi” (the army canteen) but yes it informs that the T-shirts were NOT official National Guard gear. Good post.

As for Shah he is always quick to talk but too late to act!!!

But i will be more than interested for that meeting...let me know if you arrange anything ... for next week but not after that because i am leaving Cyprus!!!
