How does the sensitivity of a Dreambox tuner compare with the various ‘Sky’ tuners?

Anywhere from Bloody awful (early DM500) to not too bad (later 'Alps' DM500). I am no expert as I own the Alps DM500 and have little experience of anything else, but I hear it's about the best of the bunch. I am not aware of anyone on Island with the new DM8000 HD box yet. Word was the dreammultimedia wanted it to be the best!!

Cheers

Nick

Thanks Nick!

It does, to a degree.

Many thanks.

It gets really technical really quickly, I've tried to keep it simple.

As for mesh/perforated dishes - they are next to useless for Sky (unless signal is really strong) as it works on ku Band where as the Mesh dishes are designed for C band. The ku signal simply bleeds through any hole over 4mm dia

Now that's interesting.

You know your microwaves.

Very good, I'm impressed.

I think this is an excellent idea – these questions are asked over and over again…

I also think a dedicated section for SKY Digital will be benefficial to many members..
But this is up to the cyprus-forum administration to decide.

That depends which model Dreambox you are asking..Dream multimedia uses 2-3 different makes of tuners on their boxes...some are good some are really crap..My personal experience is that DM500 tuner is a waste of time but DM7020 has a very good tuner which is more sensitive than some skybox tuners..I use a 7020 next to SKY HD box..Although it cannot match SKY HD tuner it has outperformed quite a few skyboxes in the past..
I have some detailed information on types of tuners used on various Dreamboxes but not not on this PC...will try to post it tomorrow for you..

Nick,

The Invacom LNB was mentioned earlier.

Question: Why a quad as against a single?

Because it is a proven fact that the quad is much better than the single version...
I also use quad invacoms on ALL of my prime focus installations..

A 1.5m offset is OK for SKY Sports 1/2/3 but might give problems on Premiseship Plus..
I recommend a 1.8m offset dish for trouble free viewing of these channels...
