something for cypriots to think about

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

something for cypriots to think about

Postby free_cyprus » Wed Apr 04, 2007 3:42 pm

I am not an Athenian, nor a Greek, but a citizen of the world.
socrates

if one of the greatest thinkers of philosophy and the founding father and seed of philosophy can say he is not an Athenian, nor a Greek, but a citizen of the world.

how comes our morons in cyprus where they have nothing to do with athens or ankara think themselves to be turkish and greek and rant and rave about it............................. perhaps this shows that a men like socrates can think more clearly about himself then our very own cypriots two and a half thousand years on.......................there is no tragedy writen in any fictional or a fact book as the tragedy of cyprus though history ..................................

And from where exactly, I mean the exact passage, did you collect it?

Citizen of the world? That is why he accepted death penalty being the judgment of his fellow citizens? And as a result of his well knowm obedience to the law of his state.... Being if I am correct, a citizen of Athens.

"It is a personality which has impressed itself on posterity as has no other. He was quite indifferent to luxury, to danger in war, to arrogant nationalism in peace (“I am not an Athenian, nor a Greek, but a citizen of the world,” he said.) But he was far from indifferent to his friends, to his city, and to the laws of that city even when they unjustly condemned him to death."

Shame none of the influential arrogant apes down south dont take any note of their ancient thinkers...

socrates stood for what he believed to be right even to death his friends wanted to take him away from prison but he refused on the grounds it was not moral and it went against all his beliefs as just ....................... he was a great thinker

As far as i`m living here, I realized as follows: Cypriot Greeks are not Greeks at all.
Anyway: after 2 years I`m glad of this, but from the beginning it was a bit confused: Cyprus IS NOT a Europe, Cyprus is a part of Middle East.
BTW:Ancient Greece was the cradle of European culture, not Asian
