Cyprus Broadband Forum

Postby efty » Tue Apr 03, 2007 10:45 pm

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to setup a new community that is interested in promoting Broadband Usage in Cyprus. The purpose of this new community is to attempt to improve the current situation which I believe is unacceptable.

Please visit the following and post your views.

Please post comments and suggestions to the forum. Otherwise there is no use making it.

The effort is to consolidate all interested people in one place.

Thanks for the vote of confidence ray.
The reason we are doing this forum is to stop moaning and take some action.

If you feel that you are paying a just amount and the quality of service you receive is adequate then please do express your opinion.

I have spoken to many people so far and 90% of them are not satisfied with the price and the quality. The fact that Cyprus has such a low broadband penetration percentage compared to other EU countries is indicative enough in my opinion that there is a problem.

In any case I will cease to discuss with you in this forum. If you wish we can continue at

We are on an island... is not inland fiberoptics used, these are underwater fiberoptics, extremely expensive... noone dares to use satellite connections anymore due to high latency. Traffic is expensive, so prices are fixed to a level where they cant go cheaper. Some providers charge 3-4 CYP extra to keep kids away so they dont download etc... i mean, it will never be as in UK, forget it.

I think it would be more beneficial to start a dialogue in this forum – rather than setting up a totally separate one to discuss it. Perhaps the admins could make it ‘sticky’ for you or even set up a separate section...
