Is there such a thing as North - South ex-pat rivalry?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

The pariah's who 'purchase' property belonging to displaced persons give decent British Imperialist bar stewards, plumbers and speculators like me a bad name!

But are they really foolish?
If we had not purchased a house in Ammochostos we would not have lost it in 74 along with my Cypriot wife's family property (I know, just the same as everybody else).
If we had purchased a flat in Kyrenia instead of Larnaca in 86 we would not have been driven out by a corrupt RoC Copper and his East European associates in the 90's (anyone want to buy a good sized two bed flat in good nick near the beach in Larnaca, cheap?).

Until recently in the years after the war property in the north was a fraction of the price in the south. Unless buying legally owned property it's very easy to overlook the morals of buying 'stolen property', do the math! Accomodation amid some of the best sceanery in the world, all for what was then peanuts could have meant X years of either minimal or no mortgage repayments and the equivelent amount invested in property elsewhere or high yield off shore savings accounts. After thirty years plus of virtual free housing any solution to the current impasse will either leave the illegal 'owner' with legal ownership or a nice little set a side non taxable nest egg for their old age else where.

Now on our fourth RoC property and only ever having being able to sell one and live in another without Turkish 'interventionist' bombing or an RoC coppers intimidation I really would question who the Fools are!
