Is there such a thing as North - South ex-pat rivalry?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I am amazed that the GCs allow them to go the south to buy things they can't get in the north. They whinge about the GCs, quoting Akritas to justify their thieving but they are more than happy to use the ROC when it suits them. There is a website in the north run by a brit, sometimes interesting but always back slapping and self congratulatory about the wonderful time they are having on someone elses property. As Jeremy Clarkson once said, " may the fleas of a thousand camels infest their underpants" forever (knickers too).

Only a thousand camels? these pariah's give decent British Imperialist bar stewards, plumbers and speculators like me a bad name

Doing My Bit!
Small victories are all important, just after the Green Line crossing points opened up mine was grabbing the last jar of 'Marmite' off the shelf in Orphanides before my fellow countryman, a resident of northern Cyprus could get his hands on it

Revenge of the N Cy. Brit!
My friend from the north must have put the word out on me with the Turkish authorities as I was charged CY£1 to take a leak on the 'other side' in January of this year. First time that I've been there since 74 and only then because I could'nt find anyone else to take an Arab client over. 'Marmites' not cheap in the RoC but it's a damn site cheaper, if you will pardon the expression than having the piss taken out of you on the 'other side' :x

I dont think ex-pats in the South give too much thought to those in the North; they are rarely discussed - but the general feeling is pretty negative to those who have bought on 'stolen' land.

What is interesting is the different attitudes of ex-pats in the north towards GC - and ex-pats in the South towards TC. The latter feel postively towards TC throughout the island. However, ex-pats in the north are very anti-GC, as you will see from the various MSN Forums - feelings of guilt?

i think people should have the right to live where they want to live its a choice they make. whole of cyprus is a beautiful place to live in. the onlything that is diffrent is the language they speak, even though in reality they dont have anything to do with the mainland spoken greeks or turks but they convince themselves they are greeks and turks............................also britain has long association with cyprus aster all they still have a huge chunk of it for free called bases and thousand of people have lived on those bases and they still do, ........................we should take it as a compliment that other cultures find cyprus such a beautiful place to settle down and become part of the island.................. in britain there are hundreds of thousands of cypriots who have live there they have worked became part of the system and made their fortunes there they have been given equal rights................ to my disappointment even though they are thausands of miles from cyprus they still use old propaganda and they are still actively involved in spreading hate towards out fellow cypriots in a way they devide us especialy the bussinness people and the media such as londong greek radio and london turkish radio.................. not only has cypriot community made a fortune in the u k in most cases they made their fortunes from the rag trade using their own people and conning their own people out of money. and then they come to cyprus and buy buildings and hotels and restaurants and they say look at me i have made something of myself cors they made something of themselves they knew how to steal from others............... there are two kinds of bussiness people that come from cyprus turkish speaking and greek speaking they share one thing in common though, they become part of the big wheel that promotes hate among our people. show me one cypriot greek speaking pr turkish speaking that has done something for the cypriot people as a whole regardless of what language they spoke or what riligion they fallow...................cypriots are the most selfish race on this planet when it comes to their own gains they are sooo quick to take sides they are so quick to suck up and they are soo quick to show off brag but deep down they are false they are nothing.......................... how do i know all this its simple i met somany of them ranging for someone who has couple of million to people who have over hundred million. and what did i discover they are like a building without faundation they are false the only thing they have is the money anything else is not even worth mentioning..................................the total wealth of the cypriot community in london is estimated about between ten and twenty billion...................... i like to see just one person who has come forth and dedicated a building for arts or a community centre for our people of cyprus i havent found any if you know of anyone i like to hear from you

As an ex-pat who lives in the north,on Turkish speaking Cypriot land,I read all you haver had to say and can see that with attitudes like yours there will never be peace on this Island.
I come from Northern Ireland and the story is the same there.Due to the lies told by both sides the hatred just festered. NOW, in the whole of Ireland people are starting to get together and with only a few who oppose it,the island is a lovely place to visit.with a border, which is only on paper now,you can travell anywhere unhindered The people from both sides of the border are like here just nice people who want to get on in life and to leave their children better off than they were.Politicians have a different agenda and there are times and their motives should be examined carefully on emotive issues.
We could go on and on argueing about this and will never get anywhere.
If the bulk of the people from all over this lovely island put all this behind them for the moment and set out to make this, what it could be,a paradice for tourists, then prospertity would solve all the ills of the Island.
Talking about yesterday does not help unless we learn the leessons given.
Wrongs commited can not be undone and for every wrong one side gives the other side counters with another wrong.
I have not heard many ex-pats bad mouth the Greek speaking Cypriots and I have not heard many bad mouth the T S/C except on here which is a shame.
Perhaps the situation will improve when the children of this island are old enough to take over, unless of course, their minds are filled with hate as happened in my country.

Were people ethnically cleansed from north Ireland like the 200.000 GCs? My home and property is occupied by some fucking thieves. It is not their land it MY land. And don't tell me wrongs can not be undone. I am sure if somebody commits a crime against you will seek justice and we have the right to do that too! It can be undone by giving back the land they stole from us.

People from England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland speak english but are british as per the passport. For example, their roots may be Scottish as they were born in Scotland, but they are British Citizens.
People from Cyprus speak Greek but are Cypriot. Apart from language and religion they are Cypriots. Wave the flag and stop with the Greek nonsense!
