Propose and discuss specific solutions to aspects of the Cyprus Problem

The 'dogma' as I would understand it is this;

that due to historical factors Turks and Greeks can't live together, and that ethnically separate states are the solution.

OK, I've created the thread "Security Concerns in a post-Solution Cyprus" where we can focus on such issues exclusively. :D

Some info about settlers, which I thought people would find interesting ...

Demographic analysis of Turkish Cypriot population:

Residents since before 1974: 67% of "Registered Citizens"
Residents who came between 1974 - 1979: 17% of "Registered Citizens"
Residents who came between 1980 - 1989: 6% of "Registered Citizens"
Residents who came between 1990 - 1999: 4% of "Registered Citizens"
Residents who came after 2000: 1,5% of "Registered Citizens"
Mixed Marriages: 2% of "Registered Citizens"
(Others / No response: 4%)

Notes:

1. Out of the 17% who came between 1974 and 1979, 14% are settlers and 3% are Turkish Cypriots who repatriated. Of those who came after 1980, almost all are settlers.
2. These statistics do not include unregistered workers, who came into Cyprus from Turkey mostly during the 90s, when the requirement to present a passport was waived.

I guess more of the "Myth of the Settlers' will be settled after his new info.

I hope, so long gone the days, where people keep on claiming that there are 12Ok settlers in the north. :)

Hmm, the figure I have been given is that total registered population is 225,000 (including under-18s), therefore 1% of that is 2,250.

With this in mind, settlers who came in during the 70s (and their direct descendants) are 14 x 2,250 = 31,500.

Settlers who came in during the 80s are 6 x 2,250 = 13,500

Settlers who came in during the 90s are 4 x 2,250 = 9,000

Settlers who came in after 2000 are 1,5 x 2,250 = 3,375

TOTAL NUMBER OF SETTLERS (MIXED MARRIAGES EXCLUDED, ILLEGAL WORKERS EXCLUDED) = 57,500 APPROX.

P.S. The information I have been given on the number of illegal workers is that they are approx. 40,000, which puts the total number of "registered+illegal" settlers close to 100,000.
