I am sorry to disappoint you on this one miltiades but your analysis is somehow flawed. You portrait the US as an angel in the case of Cyprus but don't forget that it was Kissinger who celebrated after the Greek Junta (and CIA orchestrated) coup - his first reaction was "great we got rid of the red monk", the next step of course was to give Turkey the green light to invade.
Since as you say the US is so pro human rights and you portrait them as the saviour of all weak people then how come they have done nothing about Turkey occupying 1/3 of an independent country? Why the hell are they not acting on the numerous UN resolutions about Cyprus? It only needed one to sort Kuwait out, but again Kuwait has oil.... Double standards don't you think?
So according to your analysis Cypriots should just accept the new pax Americana and align with the US in doing whatever idea comes to Bush's and the other neoliberal gang's mind in order for the US not to recognise "trnc"? Thanks, I prefer to be able to stand up and face the world and our neighbours without a hinch of shame. Does the world solidarity rings any bells? Why should I betray Palestine, the Iraqi people, the Diego Garcians and all the people that continue to suffer as a result of the pax americana? Aren't we also victims of this new world order? Isn't Cyprus still under occupation because the US allows it in order not to lose their beloved ally in the norther boarder of the middle east region?
Should I remind you all the crimes against the world that the US directly or indirectly commited?
- Nigaragua
- Chile
- Venezouela
- Argentina
- Vietnam
- Palestine
- Greece
- Cambodia
- Laos
- Panama
- Dominican Republic
- Cuba
- Guatemala
- Honduras
- Iran
- Libanon
- Puerto Rico
- Bolivia
- Yugoslavia
- Cyprus
- Grenada
- El Salvador
and this is just what springs to my mind now. In all these cases the US deemed right to intervene in order to promote their new world order. Nedless to say that in the process millions have died and hundred of millions suffered.
