Hi Steve

The ferry actually runs from Southampton to Limassol ( and places further beyond ) but calls into Salerno on the way and is operated by grimaldi .

This is ideal if you want to drive through Europe as part of your journey -- if not stick the car on the ferry at Southampton.

I've been told that although it's really a freighter the meals and accommodation are very good but I must admit I haven't tried it.

I was looking at using the service from Limassol to Salerno as I have a very close friend in a province of Salerno and would like to visit him and see a bit of Italy at the same time using my own car and of course enjoy the stop over places on the way.

I usually fly there -- his wife lends me her car - but then I'm pretty well obliged to stay with them for the whole holiday -- ferrying my own car over will give me more freedom and put me under less obligation to my friends and at last I may get to see a lot more of Italy -- well that's the idea anyway

It's not exactly cheap but I've been assured it's good value for the money.
