Weather forecast system now operational

Postby devil » Sat Mar 31, 2007 4:52 pm

I have implemented a new weather forecast system. This uses my own weather station as a primary source of data, but also synoptic data from a 1200 km radius, METAR and GSF sites, weather buoys etc.

It will be updated at irregular intervals during the day, for the time being. I hope to make it at fixed hours every day within a couple of weeks.

You mean in Kelvin and Degrees Réamur?

All units are normally metric. For some unknown reason, one forecast this morning was in Imperial for temp and rainfall - sorry!!!

Sorry, it would be very difficult to add a second unit.

She probably meant Centigrade and Fahrenheit. Conversions are easy...

Centigrade = ((Fahrenheit - 32) x 5) / 9

Fahrenheit = ((Centigrade x 9) / 5) + 32

Sorry, this country, as well as the whole world except the USA, currently uses metric. Metric is legal in the USA, as well and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) recommends metric over imperial. I therefore see no reason for me to do conversions at a software level. I can easily do one or the other, but both would be tricky as it would mean adding many kb into the php script used for display and it would look clumsy.

Sorry, request denied.

GR, I suggest it is your goodself that needs to get real and recognise irony when you see it! :D
