I am so sorry about that Stuart...I hope Louis is feeling better now...

I know that is a big issue with those stupid land owners!!! Well dont think that you have that because you are not Cypriot...when i was little we use to rent our house and we had the same things ... but actually my parents used to fix those problems wth their own expenses and after fixing the house the land owner told them that they had to leave!! You know that forced my mum to rhink about getting our own house! And we did!

I hope you will manage to sort it out with out any police or fight and Louis will not be upset!

Hey Louis...is that you???

Well I dont know if that is you but I am sure that this is for you from me!!!

There are so many british owners here now.
I would tend to go with them..
you never hear of anyone getting there deposit back..
most of the time your deposit is what is paid to the agent... the first months money commision !!
so when you decide to move, they make up any excuse about re-painting, you damaged this or whatever..
Best thing to do is, give the months notice and dont pay them for that month.. its the only way..

Always remember this....
They love you when you are giving them money,, but when you want to take it from them,, you are the devil..

This kind of shoddy practice isn't limited to Cyprus though. I recall the same happening to me years ago in Australia. :(

Biker wrote:As far as neighbours go I had no problem for many years as I had a cop as a neighbour and he kept the rest of the block in shape, when he left we had some very noisy bastards move in, after a couple of weeks I went down at 4am with a pick-axe handle and my dog, problem solved.

Our neighbour who operated his nasty noisey 'establishment' in our block and who drove us and his other neighbours from our Larnaca homes was a serving COP!

The COP and his East European business associates knew how to handle complaints, one Cypriot neighbour badly beaten, several cars vandalised and a bottle of petrol and a box of matches left at everyone's front door.

I'm afraid that a dog and a pick axe handle just will not do the job in a case like this. There's too much money to made from importing teenage girls for sex and selling drugs to the local kids. Not my kids, so as the police superintendent from Larnaca said 'This is Cyprus - Dont Worry', unless of course you have a nice flat near the beach sitting empty for seven years!

My landlady and landlord are lovely.. they always get any problems dealt with promptly, at their expense, I pay my rent on time, always 3 months in advance..

I simply cannot fault them in any way.. they even allowed me to erect a 4.2m sat dish on the roof of their maids quarters..

In return I offered to let them have a feed of my quad LNB so they can get SKY tv..

:D

We are having problems also with neighbours. Its now almost half past eleven and the noise from the apartment down the corridor is awful. Loud music, children shouting and adults clapping. I wouldn't mind the odd once or twice for an occasion but its almost every afternoon and evening also. They cannot put the TV on except at full volume and then refuse to answer the door when you go and knock. I have my TV on now and can hear them above it. How the people who live either side of them manage I don't know but what can you do? Anybody help?

Write an honest letter expressing why you're so unhappy and pop it under their door or in their mail box. Include your name and number etc.

Good luck.

Very difficult since inconsiderate people do not understand the concept of neighbourly coexistense. i suggest you call the police and complain. Do this every time they are unreasonably loud and disturbing, if this fails then you need a big guy to back you up !!
