HOW TO GET MOTOR INSURANCE IF YOU ARE FOREIGNER???

funnily enough, my insurer is GAN direct
we were refused insurance by lots of companies for my wife, who is an EU national (not cypriot), until we threatened action through the EU ombudsman. we sent a lot of strong letters around, believe me i was mega-p7ssed off !
after that, they couldn't insure us quickly enough !
as an EU national you are entitled to EXACTLY the same products and level of service as the Cypriots. thats the whole point of the EU ! dont let anybody ever tell you anything different, it is illegal to refuse you and you can take legal action agaisnt them.
p.s the excuse the inusrance companies give for not insuring 'foreigners' is mostly a result of the pontians, who are a high-risk group and have engaged in countless insurance scams

I am glade there is people that know their rights! You counldn't be more right! I was planning in complaint actions if I wouldn't find it. Fortunetly, Comercial Union accepted me without any problem, in 15 min I had my insurance!
Still, I was not able to get the cheaper price... I was in hurry in order to drive and that's why...
I felt so discriminalized and for them it was just normal. It was unbelievable...
I tried to explain them their new european obligations, and as a human right legal adviser, I also enumerated the rights that they were violating!!! But they just didn't want to understand...
Anyway, thank you for your message.

hello.
i have the same problem, but iam not european.. iam drivin 1993 car with 1.3 engine size and i have to pay allot for that.. many companies refused to insure me untill i got one but i have to pay allot of money.and the reason was that iam not cypriot.. any idea where can i get a good pice insurance?

I attempted to change my insurance company some years ago due to the company I was with being on the verge of collapse.
I went to a number of insurers but soon realised they were hiking the prices up because I was a foreigner.
One in particular refused point blank to insure me as the stated they don't insure Brits due to the high number of Brits involved in accidents
.
They threw me out of the office when I'd finished telling them what I thought of the Cypriots driving skills or should I say lack of them
This was before they joined the EU so it could be different now but somehow I doubt it
Happy Bill --- well I will be when I can get my sad unemployed arse over to Cyprus --- I wonder if I can claim unemployment benefit in Cyprus
