Firstly you need the router connected to the cyta modem

Once it is connected you have 2 choices.. wait about 6 hours then turn the router on, or set the router to spoof your desktop pc's mac address...

Once you have done that, the router should work

make sure the router is connected to the cyta/i-choice modem via the wan port not a lan port

:D

spoofing ?

look in the manual for the router, or download it from the link in my previous post in this topic. there is a section where you select "cable modem" and the option is to enter a mac address. Reading the manual step by step will help greatly.

You need the CYTA router connected, you plug your router into it.

Where in Paphos are you ?

I'm in Chlorakas, up from the Tombs of the kings road. Basically up the hill opposite the shipwreck.

I'm off out now for 2 hours, but I'll have a go later at following your instructions.

If you've got time, I'm quite happy to pay a reasonable amount to get this sorted. I noticed you're in the Pafos area. My mobile is; 96382146

8) Do i or do i not detect an opening here for some clever IT literate bod to do a mobile P.C troubleshooting service, including setup and programme installation??
It is all well and good if you KNOW what to do -- but if you dont you might as well be talking gobblygook and to a lot of us you are!
And im sure a lot of people would pay to have their router connected or a specific programme installed etc....So come on how about it?? :)

Uhm.... its quite simple really.

You're network is working.

Don't unplug your old Cyta modem, leave it in.

The wire at the back of the Cyta modem that you used to plug into your computer... DON'T. Instead, plug it into the port at the back of your new wireless router.

Call Cyta and tell them to release your IP address. Wait 5 minutes.

Connect your laptop via wireless.

And it should work....

If it doesn't there are several options:

Have you every used your laptop with Cyta succesfully using the old method? If so then most of your settings should be fine. If not, call Cyta to see if you have to put in any "proxy" settings etc or you MAY have to log in with your username and password to an i-choice site (I forgot, i moved from Cyprus a while ago).

If it doesn't work, call Cyta and let them talk you through the rest.

Don't get confused with MAC addresses and spoofing, you don't need to do it... stick to the simple method

Good luck

TCKLIM - Sorry, been busy and had given up trying with this bluqqy thing! Anyway I sort of follow what you're saying, but if I don't connect the cable from the Cyta modem to my big computer, surely it's then out of the system? Or do I reconnect it with another cable?

I've got a step forward as my lap top will at least work when I stuff the LAN cable from the modem in it. This certainly hasn't worked before, but not really sure what I've done to achieve it! It may well have had something to do with Cyta bu99ering about with our system in our area this AM... anyway one step forward, but would appreciate a little bit of guidance to get over the last step

Many many thanks!

I think I've worked it out by myself, but need confirmation.

Just connected the (blue) cable from the Cyta modem into the WAN socket of the router, then stuck another cable in one of the line sockets and put that in the back of my 'big' computer....it showed it had a connection but wouldn't connect to the net...

I assume this is correct up to this point, and I must now ring Cyta to release my Ip(whatever that means). Could someone please confirm this is correct before I go any further :?:

I've connected everything back as it was again to write this
