You can recover your lost data using a software named O&O Disc Recovery

O&O Disc Recovery
O&O DiskRecovery functionality begins where other programs leave off. This software combs every sector of a hard disk, memory card, or digital camera to find lost files. Even when files systems are formatted or destroyed, it is possible to reconstruct once deleted data. Over 300 file types can be recognized and restored, including Word documents, Excel workbooks, Access Databases, and virtually every sort of commonly used graphics, photo, movie, and music formats (JPEG, AVI, MPEG, MP3, WAV, BMP, TIFF, Corel Draw, Photoshop, Framemaker, Adobe Illustrator, and many more). Do not give up on lost data! O&O DiskRecovery can still help even when things look hopeless.

Download a recent version of the programme and a serial or keygenerator form the following link

Sylvia, I'm not sure if what you did is a "system restore" or a "system recovery". If your windows has gone back to factory windows, in other words the way it looked when you first bought the computer, then chances are you've done the latter which is EXTREMELY difficult if not impossible to go back because a "recovery" deletes the HDD partitions and re-creates them to place the factory default windows image. Undeleting partitions is a very difficult and technical process that requires sophisticated technical software.

There are two ways to determine if you did a system recovery... 1. If you inserted a system recovery CD which booted up and did the process or 2. If you pressed [F10] or [F8] (I can't remember which right now) upon boot-up which fired up the recovery process which resides in ROM on the motherboard.

Regards, GR.

:(

Do you recall if when you pressed [F10] it came up with a menu which also offered to "undo a previous..." or did it just fire away and replace everything?

If you don't recall such an option then your only hope is to take it to an EXPERT systems engineer who might be able to "undo" the partition formatting/changing. Give preference to a support center that SUPPORTS YOUR BRAND because only "brand-name" computers/laptops have the [F10] built-in recovery feature. ie: If it's a Toshiba laptop then you MUST go to a Toshiba accredited company etc.

Good luck.

Yes it just fired away aftr pressing F10. What I should have done was toignore the acer manual and gone for system and asked it to go back to a day before. But I didnt know and I though the acer manual could tell me why my sound card had suddenly disappeared. It just said system restore back to previous.......which I took to mean driver. It just went off on its own. I couldnt believe it when it rebooted with nothing but the basics.

sylvia do what devil said. Do not press keys it doesn't help you. Recovery of data is a complicated (and boring) process and also a pretty expensive service. If you will try to do something yourself it just increases a price and reduces a possibility of recovery.

you could phone your server hotline and they might talk you through it but last posting sounded pretty knowledgeable with his instructions so do what he says first.good luck.

Yikes Kazza!!

What can I say Sylvia... you're the classic system abuser!

I'll bet your system before the recovery was running like a snail with crutches! :(

Hi beverly10.

I've done all that. It seems the bottom line is that It can be done, so a couple of companies say, BUT it will cost me about 150-200 pounds. I'll be in cyprus for easter so I'll bring my laptop with me and see if I can get it done any cheaper. Failing that, I'll just have to re-write all my stories. Good job I got a good memory and have got first edits to copy from. I've aleady got carpel tunnel so if I have to re-write everything, well pieces of me will start dropping off....hahahahah
