It's for the very reason we haven't been left alone long enough that Cyprus has a bit of a problem in the ID department.
But already there are thousands of Cypriots shunning Greece and Turkey, something that was unheard of a few decades ago. Give Cyprus another 20 odd years and you'll see an even bigger difference. Cyprus is still forming her ID as we speak...
