Zan, please look around you my friend the trnc and more so the turkish speaking cypriots are suffering and are fast loosing evrything around them to turkey and the battle with the RoC. I personally have nothing to loose or gain either way. I am 38 years of age, I left Cyprus at the age 12, I have a life in Australia, no matter what happens to Cyprus my life is here, I will never return to Cyprus permanently. I have studied sociology and anthropology at university and have made social work my profession, I value all humans equaly their cultures and language and traditions because they make me a stronger person, by what I can learn from our diversity. I value social justice and equality above all. The RoC cannot take on Turkey is a fact. Papadopoulos ought to negotiate with trnc leadership no wquestion about it, however this cannot happen whilst turkey is calling the shots and it cannot happen whilst the trnc leadership is looking to turkey for support. at the same time I don't know ehat the answer is. However july 8th, gave an opportuntiy to do that to begin discussions, who knows may be out of those discussions the leaders on both sides will discover that our commonalitites outweigh our difference and perhaps they can come to relise that our differences are also our strengths and perhaps we can kick the greeks out and you can kick the turks out so that we are all on equal playing field thus build a new fair and just Cyprus for all. You may want to believe me when I say that I am personally concerned about the demise of turkish cypriotness or you may call it a bluff but that is your interpretation, and it is fine with me. However it is time that turkish speaking cypriots perhaps listen to the turkish speaking writers and journalists before you guys are swamped with turks. not that there is anything wrong with that, they too are human beings, however, if turkey is benefiting at your expense then it is time to move beyond 1974 because we have not travelled far in the last 32 years. you guys are isolated we have huge population of displaced people as you do, can you not see every problem faced by greek speakers has consequences fo you guys. you are the ones copping the double wammy.
It is time that your leadership meet with Papadopoulos, don't knock back the opportunity, you were complaining and righlty so that he wasn't meeting with you now he has given the opportunity lets take it. Lets move on Ledra street, lets get people moving along the shopping strip and make some changes for some turkish speaking cypriots who have sops along the road, with that they will need workers and they can therefore employee more turkish speaking cypriots that is how things will becoame better for the turkish speaking cypriot community, because lets ace it the RoC will not allow for direct trade, and rightly or wrongly they are protecting the rights of their refugees.
I think this man is a viionary and I imagine he is in the wrong position to be able to do much about it.
Both side need to look at the fact the=at there has been no change in the last 32 years because we play the same tune, nothing will change unless we change our attitude and what we have been doing has not worked so need new strategies to deal with this issue.
On a very personall spiritual level I think turkish speaking cypriots are selling themselves wrong by arguing for trnc recognition, it is saying that we are less valued than the others on this land because we do not want to say the whole I sland is our country we want to say that 1/3 of this beautiful Island is our land. But that is not up to me to make that call or not, this is how I see things.
Yes it is an invitation to memebrship, however with membership comes equlaity and and fairness, we need to work together to come up with the right policies that will ensure that. I think if we can work together, chat on this forum together we can live together as we are all human beings and are all cypriots. But we cannot achieve this if we do not talk to each other.
