Security in Cyprus

Postby devil » Thu Mar 22, 2007 10:32 am

Do you feel safe?

If I leave my car outside the house or in the village, I never lock it. I lock it in towns. (It spends most of the time in the garage, though!)

I never lock the house either, unless I'm going out or at night.

OK, I have a dog, which may be off-putting to potential intruders, even though he would wag his tail at them!

It used to be the same when I first lived in Switzerland but it deteriorated there during my near-40 years residence. Will it be the same here?

I lived in London, UK all my life up until recently and I still lock my doors at home and in the car. I even drive with the doors locked. I think things can happen anywhere and it does not hurt to be safe and careful.

I know in Malta my Nan used to leave the keys in the door and still to this day her door is on the latch, but I would not do that.

Be safe.

Jo :)

We have electronic gates, an alarm and cameras around the perimeter of our house. When the house was being built, the builders and contractors laughed. Burglaries etc have increased as the years have passed. Cars are being broken into and their is more street crime (OK nothing compared to the UK, but still there)

Same as Twinkle, building now and put Alarm , security cameras etc, thinking about getting a dog aswell, but got a baby so not sure. Crime in Cyprus isnt as bad as other coutries but (without wanting to sound racist) with the increase in eastern block immigrants amongst others, crime is on the increase. My sister in law left her car unlocked for 3 minutes while she went into the newsagents and had her mobile and bag stolen. I heared the other day of someone getting their house broken into, and it does make me worried. Personaly coming from England (even though we lived in a quiet village in wiltshire), ive learnt to lock my car always and i still lock it even if im going to leave for a coulpe of minutes or if im at home.

it is, after all, the most perfect country in the world.

unless of course, you are someone's pet, and you have to worry about being mistreated, neglected, or poisoned.

We have two dogs too. I have to say the cameras are also there to deter people mistreating the dogs as we can see what was/is going on.
