Smoking ban in restaurants

Postby caroler » Wed Mar 21, 2007 11:23 pm

Just returned after two week holiday to find my favourite restaurant now has a smoking ban. The owners say it is because of EU laws and that they will be fined Cyp 1,000 if a client smokes in the resto. When did this law come into force in Cyprus?

Thank God for that. Nothing worse than enjoying a good meal and being choked by cigarette smoke.

yep it is true new smoking rules are being enforced all over Cyprus, at the moment. as far as i can tell bars have to have designated smoking areas !!! not sure if there is a total smoking ban in restaurants, but it is restricted !!!

a good thing in my opinion  but i also gave up a year ago like ray

Yippee do!! Great! I noticed tonight that our local bar has a designated smoking area. It didn't have it last week. I wonder if the recent fines have anything to do with it? :D The law has been around for ages but its just not been enforced until recently.
