Smoking ban in restaurants

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Here in Australia depending on the state you live in there are various levels of smoking restrictions.

In Queensland smoking has been banned from restraunts, inside public buildings and public transport for years and recently it has been banned from all pubs/clubs, within 4 metres of the doorway of any public building, public parks and gardens and beaches.

When they banned it from pubs it helped me to give up smoking which was a pretty weak excuse but hey gotta blame someone.

A lot have people have given up smoking because of these bans and in reality this is a good thing. We all know that smoking is not good for you and socially is pretty bad for people who don't smoke.

Of course when they realise that it probably wont reduce the lung cancer rate in cities they will wonder why - deisel particulate out of exhausts is a known cause of lung cancers and with the traffic in any city these days a breath of fresh air is something you can only get out of an oxygen cylinder

Aussie, if that doesnt get you, then something else will, there is always new findings that cause cancer, inlcuding sugar alternatives, but it goes on and on.
We are all gonna take that trip one day so make the most of it now. You dont know if that "new micro filter beer" is going to be the next one on the list.
POint is, enjoy every day as if its your last, tomorrow you may not be here.

Sorry didnt want it to go i n the direction of a "soothayer" but it kinda came out that way.. You know what I mean

I'm definitely not into Karaoke. Last time I tried to sing, my dog wouldn't come out from hiding for three days.

Few years back, went to see a cricket match at the Sydney Cricket Ground and smoking was not allowed. They had a designated closed area for smoking where you could'nt see the game, so after an hour I left. I cannot imagine no smoking at Cypriot football matches.

Turbo,

I am hearing you on what you said about all the things that will kill you and take your point.

As for the Sydney Cricket Ground or any other sporting stadium in Australia

No more smoking areas

Its either dont smoke or get outside..literally..you get a passout , go outside the entire stadium, have a smoke and come back in.

On the spot $250 fine if you are caught smoking in the stadium.

When I worked in "international catering" Dover-Calais we used to get a lot of not very polite boozy passengers. One side of the huge bar area was smoking (ashtrays on the table) and the other side had no ashtrays (no smoking signs on the bulkheads). Often I was asked for an ashtray in the no smoking area and was usually abused when I pointed out that they were in the non somking area and could they put out their fags. The offending cigarettes were often extinguished on the very expensive carpet or on the table top and occasionally the coup de grace was to blow smoke at me accompanied by a few four letter words. After a while I gave up trying to enforce the rules and occasionally took the law into my own hands, one miserable smoky bastard left his specs on the table and they were "accidentally" crushed when I stumbled (it was about force 8) and landed a heavy tray full of empties on them. I apologised and said that I hadn't seen them because of the smoke - he knew I was taking the piss but nothing ever came of it.

I am a little at a loss about this karaoke thing as I sometimes sing myself but I agree wholeheartedly with the person who complains about the awful noise some people make and still get applauded for it. I do not consider myself to be a good singer but I can hold a tune - a great many "performers" are quite dreadul but really think they are something wonderful. Certainly there are too many pubs running karaoke but there are also far too many with football and other sports on television. I wonder at the many tourists who come here and sit in a bar watching a football match that they could just as easily have seen at home. Has anyone noticed that nearly all karaokes are run for the benefit of the person who runs them rather than the customers?

Whilst I agree that some karaoke singers are nothing but screaming banshees the fact remains that only a few bars have it. On the other hand every bar and restaurant is full of cigarette smoke and you can't escape it. In short you can choose not to go to a karaoke bar but you CAN'T choose to go into a smoke free bar and still nothing is being done about it by the authorities in Cyprus but then no laws seem to be observed in this island.
