Are all people good at heart ?

The humanistic viewpoint of psychology states that people are innately good and it is a very positive viewpoint. But i dont think same .
For the first 27 years of my life, I truly believed that people are innately good. It's not true, and you will have terrible problems in your life if you proceed believing that people are good. They want you to believe they are good so that they can take advantage of you.
What do you think ?

I think people always act with positive intentions... but the road to hell is paved with positive intentions...

Gav I was of the view that all people are inately good and that certainly fits with the buddhist ideology and other new age thoughts, however a year ago I experienced saomething that taught me a lesson and a half that some peope are just dow right absolute C---S.

i have this glazed view that people are good
I dont get disappointed but I just dont understand when people do bad things....I really dont!
maybe I need to get out of my goody dreamworld......I usually blame society and social issues that make people turn bad...

I think all people have in generality good intentions, they just let circumstances dictate the outcomes of their lives.

I think you can't generalise like all people are inherently good or bad. Some people are inherently good, some people are inherently bad...
But,you must remember one thing: no one is born inherently bad...
If someone turns bad you need to look at more than their genes...
Usually it depends on what happens to them when they are children...
I agree with Freud who said "Give me a child for 7 years, and I will give you the man/woman" or words to that effect.
I think our (Cypriots') experience prove that point. We learn to love and we learn to hate...It all depends on the teacher(s).. :(

Nope, people are generally out for themselves IMHO. If their actions to achieve this makes them bad in your eyes then they are bad, otherwise good. It all depends on what that person will do to achieve their goals and what morals they have, and the moral values of the person judging them. Obviously the majority viewpoint is the one that applies to most people in society. Which is why the UK is going down the tubes.

And yes that teachers comment is perfectly right. Someone's moral compass, if you will, is changed by who teaches them.

Cheers

Hitlers Intention was ultimately good, in his mind, the protection of his countrymen from the scourge of the Jew...

Now, as to the way he went about it, barbaric, evil etc etc...
