Yes, and Jerry was right, it's called arrhythmia.

It can have many causes, mainly shortage of sleep, like I have with only 4 hours of sleep a day, it's not insomnia, it's just I don't need more than 4 hours.

It can be because you were born with "narrow arteries", mainly the aorta, that's not a big problem, only after excessive exercise.

It can be because the arteries around your heart get clogged with cholesterol. If you smoke, your blood clogs and gets thick, drinking alcohol does the opposite (but kills your braincells too). Much better than alcohol is wine vinegar or apple vinegar. Instant relief. You should mix 2 tablespoons of raw honey with 2 tablespoons of applevinegar and add a cup of water. It will instantly make your blood thinner, and give relief.

Use it 5 minutes before every meal, you will feel much better !

I drink a lot of coffee and smoke a lot

I use to get something similar to what you described whenever I'd smoke the standard red Marlboros!

It's not the tobacco that kills you, but the stuff they add to it.

That's why some brands, like Marlboro, cause far more deaths than others.

8) Just to give you another area to look at : i suffer from aortic regugitation which is caused by a leaking heart valve in the aorta allowing a small amount of blood to flow back when the valve closes. This sometimes gives the effect you explain. I got mine as a result of rheumatic fever as a child....the problem with my heart was not diagnosed until i was around 40, having returned from a military excercise in germany. Maybe you can get a scan with ultrasound if advised by your doctor .. HTH

I dont know If this is what you are experiencing but read the webiste below to see if it applies to you:

http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/arrhythmia.html

Also check this one:

http://familydoctor.org/831.xml

Certain medicines, herbal supplements and illegal street drugs can make your heart beat faster. Medicines that can cause palpitations include asthma inhalers and decongestants. Caffeine (found in coffee, tea and soda), alcohol and tobacco can also cause palpitations

So reduce the amount of cafeine you take and also alcohol and tobacco!

Do you think my arteries could be clogged up? I'm only 24! I smoke a lot though :(. How can I find out if they are? Would it be serious?

I can't tell you, because I cannot measure your cholesterol levels.

My advise is to stop smoking for a while, say 1 or 2 weeks. Drink LOTS of water, about 2-3 liters a day, eat lots of fruits, especially bananas and apples, and do not eat cheese, pizza, or fat meat for that same period. Also try to drink 1 glass of red wine with your dinner every evening, stop drinking coffee and cola for the same period.

After about 3-5 days, look how you feel, run without stopping for about 10 minutes, and add 2 minutes every day. After two weeks you should not have any heartproblems after running for 20 minutes. If you do have problems, go see a doctor ASAP.

I know what I'm talking about, gave the same advice to lots of people, and about half of them definately stopped smoking after the 2 week period.

Good Luck,
Marco.

It only happens once a day if that but it's scaring me big time. When it happens I usually get a "winded" kind of feeling with it, it almost feels as if my heart pumps air up to my throat. I know it sounds strange but thats the only way I can describe it, does anyone know what it is and if it's serious?

It's not a heart attact I hope, I'm freaking out over here!

it is either stress, or you need to get laid.
