A question of scruples…

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I have many Greek/GC friends here, so I cant be blamed for being racist, anti Greek or unreasonable. This is just a simple case of our GC brothers believing in their hearts that we have no right to be in Cyprus and the treatment we get is well deserved.

Hold on for a minute mrfromng. Your family emmigrated in UK in 1963 when you were 11. I assume from 1963 to 1974 you visited Cyprus a couple of times am I right so far? You say you never felt welcomed by the GCs during those times.

Then what? As far as I know from 1974 until just recently no TC could come here and then cross to the occupied. I have no doubt the general feeling against you was not that bright. Well, put yourself in the shoes of any GC.There is practically no one who is not either a refugee himself, or has refugees in his family, or does not aside with the pain of the refugees. What would be the best you would react if you were them? Be honest and answer this question.

We emigrated in 64, I was 11. Born 53. We visited almost every year until 74. None of those visits were pleasant as far as GC police, customs and immigration is concerned. Remember this was before Turkeys intervention.

So now you want to justify the disgraceful treatment we get because of the events of 74. So I'm answering your question honestly, I sympathise with them and perhaps understand the way they treat us at the border. What about between 63 and 74 then, what had we done to them then for the treatment we got?

It takes a brave and culivated person like you mrfromng to say "perhaps I understand the way they treat us at the border". I am sure you know not many people hold those charisma, and neither the average policeman does.

As for your second question "what have we done to them between 1963-74 to deserve that treatment" the answer is simple: You personally and thousands of others NOTHING.

Now you tell me what my family and the family of Kifeas and so many other thousand families have ever done to deserve been thrown out of their homes and lands and living for long years in misery like gypsies.

Let me ask another question if I may mrfromng. Don't you have any pleasant memories from the past at all? Or was it a few encounters here and there that spoiled everything.

Probably nothing. You are all victims of circumstances, just like the rest of us. May the people who can change it all for us make the right decisions and find a meaningful and lasting solution to a very complex problem.

I'm being absolutely honest with you. No, not in Cyprus. A few or a few dozen encounters, whatever the numbers it was too many. I only have pleasant memories with GC friends acquaintances in the UK. You may be a well travelled and a tolerant individual and may have no problems with TCs. But from my observations since the opening of the borders it is clear there is a long way to go, lot of educating needed for both sides to accept and share the same space with one another in peace and harmony. I hope this will happen and it will be in my life time.

You are so clever tho - if you pretend to be the victim enough then you might gain more sympathy for a Turkish state colony in Cyprus. Damn you guys are geniuses!

so predictable you are snake...

So are your 'victim' posts.

as a frequent overseas traveller, i usually get the bend over treatment at customs. sometimes while waiting to get my luggage i get 5 customs officers surrounding me and bombarding me with questions such as to what is your purpose of travel to which i reply it takes 5 of you to ask this question? a female custom officer asked me for my purpose to bangkok for 3 days. i looked at her straight in the eye and said S&R. she looked puzzled and asked what the hell does that mean. I said to her sex and recreation. the male customs officer ahd a laugh but she went straight red in the face. needless to say i was redlined. Ever since then i always get redlined. I just came back from China this week and again they jumped me. being the smart ass i am, i told them they can ask me questions but i wasn't gonna answer them, and if they had a problem with this to call the feds. again i was redlined. i waited a half an hour for me turn for a baggage check. then when it was my turn they said i could go. then i got upset becuase they made me wait for nothing. so i demanded they empty my suitcase and go through it as per their job. they said they wouldn't and i said well i ain't moving and i demanded they do their job. they said they will throw me out and i said i would suit them if they laid a hand on me. I also demanded the feds come out if they had a problem. a supervisor and me got in an argument and i told him the reason he got a job at customs is because he fail the test and that in a private job he would have gotten sacked carrying on like this. we argued for about 15 minutes and i wasn't willing to leave. then another supervisor came across and said i will do the search. I asked him to empty the bag out, go through my belongings and also check the perimeter of the suitcase, to which he did but fail to check the perimeter. then i showed him how to check the perimeter properly. i could see the bastard was getting frustrated. after they finished i went outside to get a taxi to go home. before the taxi i decided to have a cigarette and the same customs supervisor came out for a cigarette and we started chatting. he said i was a crazy son of a bitch and they never seen anything like this before. well i said if you gonna redline someone the least you can do is do your bloody job properly. assholes.

what ever, we dont need your petty, have you not noticed if we need anything we just take it ;)

i think we have learned a long time ago not to expect anything too humane from Greek, plus regardless of the amount of Greek propaganda websites around, if you still think politics and websites reflect the ethics of an entire nation then you are in a lot of shit my friend...

so go ponder on that one, genius!

So you came in with no evidence that you were a TC and you expected better treatment?? You should thank God they didn’t take you for a Pakistani
And they even let you pass in the end??
Hey at least show some appreciation. Your "police" does not let us pass without passport and visa.

I came in with my TRNC id card and it only worked the first couple of times and eventually they stopped allowing me in with it, nevertheless the extreme "professional manner" of your police was always present BECAUSE i was TC....

plus for your information, the chances of someone mixing up a Cypriot for a Pakistani are as likely as getting a Nigerian mixed up with a Japanese...
